"Hometown" Teams

Anyone in Northern New England should know what I'm referring to in this post...
Why is it that everyone feels the need to only like Boston teams just because Boston is our sports city up here. I get it if you're FROM Boston, that's your home team, it's good and great and fine, but people from Maine, RI, CT, are still ridiculously fanatical about Boston teams to the point where "bargirls" will pretend to like the Red Sox to get boyfriends and everyone causes fights over teams and things like that.
Whatever happened to picking a team because you like them, not just being biased because they're the team that's closest to you. I'm not sure if this goes on everywhere, but it's EXTREME in New England and it can be pretty annoying!

Well I'm not from Boston, but i know what you mean. People do that hear in New York, with the Knicks. Now personally, i think the Knicks really suck, so i don't represent them at all. I'm with Kobe and the Lakers. I use to be a fan of the Knicks, but they haven't been doing to well. Some people feel that it is kind of like trading on your hometown, but hey if the team sucks, I'm not claiming it.

In Maine, and RI (not that sure about these other NE states because I've only lived in these two) people will harass you and start fights for wearing a Yankees hat/shirt/whatever.
I'm like are you being completely serious right now??
It's the same with the Patriots! I can't stand the Patriots, but if I ever said that out loud, say, at a restaurant or something, I would have people spitting in my food.
YIKES!
