Better preventative measures against kidnapping?

I am always amazed when I read a story of a young child escaping from being kidnapped. These children are brave, and intelligent, and strong. I remember when I was in school all we were told was not to get in cars with strangers, and the pictures they would show of these so-called strangers were of creepy looking men wearing black clothing and black sunglasses. That's really all we got. Do you think that parents and teachers could be doing something more to prepare their children to defend themselves in case a situation like this should occur, something that will make more children brave enough and cunning enough to get away before the situation becomes deadly? I'm not sure exactly what kind of measure this would be, but it would save a lot of children's lives I think.

I think it is a strange world these days, parents are being put into a very hard place.. who do we trust...for instance a the girl here in Australia who was murdered by the man her mother was going to marry, it seems the mother loved and trusted that man, so what do parents do, it is hard to know how to prepare children to what might happen...it is hard to believe that the recent girl who escaped her kidnappers could have been kept in this way for 18years, it is a scary world at the moment and I don't think we are even being told of all that is going on out there...

You are very right, and predators can definitely be very close to home which is so frightening!

Hi there sredith I have 3 young sons and my head is constantly spinning around making sure I know where they are at all times when we are out and about. We don't out much at night time but if we do I usually give them a lecture before we go telling them not to wander off anywhere and to stay close to me at all times. I work with my children closely to ensure their safety.
