Why red is usually associated with birthdays?

It's my birthday today. So, I figured, why not write something about my past related to it, since there's nothing much to tell about now. I guess, that's what you get from getting older. The older you get, the more boring your birthday becomes. Well, I don't really know as to how many countries practice this tradition. But where I grew up, when you're a kid celebrating your birthday, traditionally your mom or your dad lets you wear a red dress. Sometimes, even a red polka dot one. Much worse in my case, since I only have one red polka dress and I don't know why they're so fond of it, they let me wear it over and over for my every birthday. I think I wore that for three consecutive years until the dress looks like a blouse on me already. lol Anyway, I think associating red on birthday celebrations was started by chinese, if I'm not mistaken. And since I'm half chinese, I'm not surprise why my family follows this kind of tradition. But don't get me wrong, I have nothing against it (except for a fact that I was force to wear the same dress for my three birthdays, how embarrassing), I just find it funny. Then I found an old photo of ours, it was my grandpa's birthday and we ate at a nearby chinese restaurant.I was surprised to see that on the family photo taken (including my uncles, aunts and a dozen of cousins of mine), we were all wearing, guess what, red! hahaha We look like rebels in proper coded uniform calling for a revolution, ready to explode anytime. Good thing that we didn't though. lol

Hi there, i dont know its your birthday. Happy birthday to you so how did you celebrate your birthday today. Anyway i dont really know what is the reason why red color is associated with birthday. Its funny that everytime we saw people wearing red - we always said happy birthday to you, i dont know where this idea came from. Anyway maybe red means something i really dont know hahah, happy birthday again, how young are you anyway hows your stay here? keep on mylotting

Hahaha Thanks for reminding me that one. I'm actually wondering the same on why we keep on saying and greeting people happy birthday whenever they wear something red, even though we knew it was far from the truth. I know it was only meant to be a joke, but the funny thing about it, is that, it's really not funny at all but still people keep on doing it. haha Anyway, i just turned 26 and I'm definitely not very happy about it, don't like getting old. I mean it's okay when you're in your late teens or early 20's. But when you're starting to get nearer and nearer at 30, it kinda scares me.hehe Thanks for the greet by the way. Don't have much excitement though for my birthday, partly not in the mood to celebrate. My friends are asking me out to get a few drinks tomorrow, but I haven't decided yet about that. And about my stay here in mylot, two thumbs up so far. Really appreciate you for telling me about this site. I haven't got a lot of friends here yet but I'm working on that. =)

I guess it's normal for people not to like the idea of getting old. It's like there's so much to do, so much to experience and so much to explore. And getting old most of the time, gets in the way on things you would still like to try and dream on having. Sometimes it makes you question yourself if you're in the right path, or are you growing old backwards... =(

I have no idea there eve, it all started a couple of years ago when people started saying things like "is it your birthday? you're wearing red" i don't know where that custom came from because we never had that kind of tradition.

I think that simplest explanation for that is that many people just have nothing to do so they have a lot of time to invent something that they can talk about, joke around or maybe merely just anything to open a conversation with. Like what I just did..lol I know, I didn't make any sense just there. haha
