Hi friends, I have 2-3 Nokia mobile handsets and I believe that Nokia handsets are better than others. However, one of my Nokia handset No.6030 suddenly went out of order, its screen/display almost went blank. I tried to get it repaired, however, I could not get it repaired and with the result the handset has become as good as dead me, I can receive calls, yet I cannot see the display. What is your experience about using mobile phone handsets? Do you think that now a days mobile handset are fragile, delicate and they can go out of order any time and they have a short life span? Please share your experiences with me. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hullo DEEPAK! I am ill qualified to answer theis discussion because I am simply hopeless at assessing the merits of a gadget. But how can I fail to participate in a friend's discussion? So, here I am. First of all I do not have a mobile with me right now.We had a second one at home along with my son's but it is not being used right now.I think it is a Nokia.I need to activate it next month .I am que diffident about using the handset because I suddenly feel deaf while answering it.I guess I would fall in line once I use it actively.Sorry for my useless response.[I can write 8 lines without any real information .

Hi dear!
You are always welcome Kala to my discussions, irrespective of the fact whether you have thorough knowledge of the subject or not. You see I find the spirit of participation more important than anything else. Please do not say that yours is a 'useless' response, I never never think it that way and will not every think so. You took the initiative to respond, despite the fact you do not use mobile handsets much. I appreciate your gesture and you become special because you are the first one to kick start the discussion. I can understand your predicament about your knowledge of mobile handsets, specially, when you have not been using mobile phones earlier, due to one reasons or the other. Hope you start using mobile phones sooner than later and will be able to tell me how good was your handset.
Many thanks for sharing and dropping in.

Hi Deepak,
How are you? Hope you are doing well.
I am not using a Nokia phone but my hubby is using the same and two set of phone is with him. One is from his office and the other is his personal. One of his set is three years old and is a simple set already started making problems. The other one is having facilities of camera, video etc and almost two years old and right from the beginning it has problems (even though it is a costly one). Sometimes it will get struck and I don’t know if there is any virus problem because he is loading songs from other sources. I agree the Nokia set is stronger than other mobile sets otherwise I can’t find any advantage.

Hi dear!
Nokia have some very good handsets, however, I have developed a feeling that now a days these are not more durable and it can conk out any time. Nokia's initial handset 3210 was the best and the most durable ones, I bought one for my better half some 5 years back and it still works fine. I think that now a days may be cell phone companies are using cheaper materials which do not have long life.
We will have to make oursevles understand that handsets are fragile now a days and its life is not known, even if we keep them safely.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great day!

You may be right. I remember the very first cellphone was 3210 and it lasted for about 6 years. Well, it's still working but the batter is already drained and needs a new one. It was pretty durable because it was dropped several times but didn't have any problem. However, the recent Nokia phones are not made to last like the first models. Well, they are getting cheaper so I believe the materials are not as good as the first ones.
My favorite Nokia phone was the 2626 because it can store more than a thousand messages which for me is very important. A phone is a device to call and be called, to send and receive text messages. But now phones are getting more sophisticated and complicated but they don't last very long.

Exactly so for people like me who is always on a budget it's not wise to spend much on celphones. I want one that I could use for maximum of two years and buy a new one again afterwards. The cheaper the better. Not necessarily the latest models but those that came out about a year ago would be best because their price value will have dropped by almost double sometimes.

Hi dear!
Nokia have some very good handsets, however, I have developed a feeling that now a days these are not more durable and it can conk out any time. I fully agree with you that 3210 was the best and the most durable ones, I bought one for my better half some 5 years back and it still works fine. You are right, now a days may be cell phone companies are using cheaper materials which do not have long life.
We will have to make oursevles understand that handsets are fragile now a days and its life is not known, even if we keep them safely. I think that 2626 is one of the best handsets. It is good that it helps you send text messages in bulk.

I think that nowadays everything is made to NOT last long. It's just a way to keep making more money. Things are not made to last anymore. Cell phones are not an exception. A cell phone already had a short life span in the sense that there are always new models with new features coming out, so people were already getting new ones while the older ones still worked, but the manufacturers need to get rich faster, hence the small life span.
I actually had the same thing happening to my nokia phone a few years back. I could receive calls, and I could attempt to make a call just by paying attention to the numbers and hoping to have entered it right, but nothing showed on the display.
I had a LG one that lasted less than one year too.
It's funny because I was talking with a friend about things not lasting as much anymore, just a few days ago. We started talking about cars, but it applies to everything, really. It's not that they can't make things to last, it's that it doesn't suit them, they have to make money faster. They can't be waiting 20 years until the person needs to buy a new car, they wouldn't be making the money they do.
I had my old fridge for 16 years. Ok , so maybe it wasn't super modern with all the bells and whistles, but it was a great fridge and served its purpose: Keeping the food cold or frozen depending on which compartment I was looking at. About 5 years ago, it finally broke - very understandable - and we had to buy a news one. We checked a lot of different ones, most with all this make ice thingy ( I wonder why that would be needed, isn't it just as good to feel the trays and put them in the freezer? ), and a cold water dispenser, and dual air whatever thingy , and super d-dooper trays and compartments and of course all those things make them more expensive. I kept thinking to myself, why would I want all this? It's just eye candy, in the end what I need is just to conserve my food.
We finally decided on one - no cold water dispenser no ice maker thingy etc :) -. I worked fine until the fifth year. The year the warranty was over. I have been having trouble with it ever since, to the point that I have been considering buying a new one since I had days were it didn't cool at all - although the freezer part of it is fine - and I lost milk and a few other things.
Thankfully a friend of mine was able to get me one, and we're trying it now to see if it works well before bringing it up.
I know I'm kind of off topic on this but really what I want to point out is that things could certainly last longer, it would be easier for the manufacturers to make them to last, but it's not in their interest. Things are lasting less and less time and we're faced with having to buy them more often each time.

Hi arkaf!
You are very right that everything now a days has short life span, so that people could buy the latest models and companies could earn some profits. Nokia have some very good handsets, however, I have developed a feeling that now a days these are not more durable and it can conk out any time. Yes, I agree with you that even cars are referigerators are manufactured in such a manner that they should not last long and people should replace them with the new ones. You are right, now a days may be companies are using cheaper materials and it makes the lives of gadzets shorter. We will have to perhaphs make oursevles understand that gadzets/handsets are fragile now a days and its life is not known, even if we keep them safely.
Many Thanks for sharing your experiences and writing in so much details, I appreciate your efforts.
Have a great day!

I think that it all depends on how often you use the phone and how much you charge it etc. I've heard overcharging it, or charging it for short times in a car can be harmful to the phone, and maybe even the car. We don't use our cellphone that often, now more then we had before, but even then it's never used at home except to send a text message to a friend if need be. Everyone knows our home phone number and knows to contact us at that number instead of the cellphone first, and then if we're not home to call the cellphone.
I used to be obsessed with my cellphone, but that was when I was living with my grandparents and they hardly ever answered the phone, it always went to the answering machine.

You appear right in the sense that overcharging could be dangerous for a cell phone handset. Nokia have some very good handsets, however, I have developed a feeling that now a days these are not more durable and it can conk out any time.

Hi dear!
I think that Nokia 6030 handset is not a very long lasting handset and it is not durable or designed for long run. One of my friends has the same set, he has also been facing 'display' problem with this set. I understand that while buying new handsets, we should make our mind that these can go out of order anytime/anywhere. Thanks for dropping and sharing.

The slimmer and more technologically advanced the phones are the more delicate they become. Sometimes they don't function too well because of some impact and at times they would start malfunctioning on their own. For this reason although i've used high end palm pda's ,i still prefer and use simple older models which are rugged.

Hi Alok!
You are right older models are better, though the new models give you some additional features, yet I feel that they are not so durable and long lasting. Many thanks for sharing.

I still consider Nokia sets to be best. It is also the case the navigation is very easy compared to the others. But I have bought 7210 supernova in February. I am not happy with it. The features are good but at that time, the pack did not contained data cable and extra memory stick. without them it is just useless.
I think there are complains like yours in some sets.

Hi dpk! I don't know about their life span, but I have insurance on mine through the provider that I'm using, so that if anything goes wrong with it, it will either be repaired or replaced. I haven't had to use it though, as of yet (knock on wood).
Happy mylotting!

The older version of nokia brands are known for their heavy duty usage. Even when you accidentally drop it, you can easily assemble it back and the impact has no effect on the smooth working of the handset. I have even accidentally put my mobile phone in the washing machine and together with my laundry went to 3 spins which took about 20 minutes being soaked in water. I dismantle the whole set and use a hairdryer to dry it and after a day it came out just fine. I don't see it happening with the latest models in the market. They are more fragile.

Hi Zandi!
I agree with you that older version of Nokia brands were more durable than the present ones. The existing mobile handsets are not so durable and they do not last long, no doubt that newer sets have some advanced features, but one cannot be sure of their lives. It is good that you could re-start your Nokia phone, even if it got washed in the washing Machine.
have a niced day!

Nokia handsets are supposed to be one of the best in our country but I have not used a Nokia handset for a very long time. Just now both the mobiles that I use are Motorola. These handsets have not given me any trouble for the last few years so I do not feel like switching to another handset now.

You appear to be lucky that your Motorola handsets have not given you any trouble. I wish it should not create a problem for you, because if a sets is used for considerable period of time, one feels that s/he has got his/her money's worth.

Hey,
I actually think the the handsets that are made these days are really of low quality. While a few years ago, the phones that they used to make were of really high quality. And when you would drop them, they wouldn't break. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

Hello deepak! We always have bad experiences about nokia mobile phones. Just like you, my sister bought a nokia mobile phones after one year, something's wrong with it. It's working but you can't see the screen, it's like blank or something. The technician said that probably my sister dropped it off on the floor (which is true..hehehe)So I believe that mobile handsets nowadays are too fragile.

Hi Aisa!
You are right Nokia mobile handsets and for that matter handsets of other companies are not so durable and long lasting and if you drop it on the floor, as you sister did, these are so delicate and fragile that it will start creating problems. However, we cannot help it, we need mobile phones, as they have become an integral part our lives. Many thanks for sharing.
Hope you are enjoying at your new place.

Nokia handsets seem to last much longer than others and I would definitely get a Nokia if I weren't so spoiled now by the functionality of the blackberry and ease of use. Nokia is a sturdy brand and I got one for my son.
