I have an interesting experience to share with you. Once I booked a train ticket for an 18 hrs journey. The timing I booked was 25th June - 1:30 AM, but since its night at 1.30 AM I confused myself and booked the ticket on 24th June - 1.30 AM thinking that its the night of 24th June that I have to travel. I wasn't aware of this 24 hrs notation thing to be honest. So when I boarded the right train on the wrong date, guess what, I was completely surprised to see someone else on my seat. I called up the Ticket inspector still unaware that what a blunder I have done. The train started moving by that time and long left the platform. The inspector looked at the ticket and then at me and asked if I am an educated person :) Thats when it dawned on me that what I have done. I didn't have enough money to buy an on the spot ticket. So I was allowed to stay on the train without a ticket till the next station comes. But getting down at the next station was not going to do any good to me either. I didn't have any money anyway. I stayed in the train hiding all the time from the inspector for all the 18 hours. That wasn't a very good experience.
Do you have any such experiences friends?

Haha your incident was funny. I have also traveled without ticket 2 or 3 times. In local buses there is helluva rush and there is barely 3 people standing in the place of one. Usually i call for the ticket myself when the conductor comes. But one day i was very pissed off and didn't call the conductor and even he didn't asked me. So it was a free journey for me as he thought i have already bought the ticket. This incident has happened with me one more time also.
There was a day when i had to go from Chandigarh to Shimla and i was very tired. So i took a bus from Chandigarh and sat on a seat. I was so tired that i felt asleep before even the bus started. So here the system is you get ticket on the platform and those who don't can take in the bus. As i was asleep so i think the conductor must have thought that i have the ticket so he didn't woke me up lol lucky me. When i woke up it was half way and seriously i almost forgot about the ticket. I took my normal Kurkure and a bottle of juice where the bus stop for lunch and i continued my whole journey. When i reached Shimla i am in a habit of tearing of the tickets and i was looking for them and suddenly i realized that i don't have them because i haven't bought them lol.
I have one more incident to share that i recalled just now lol. On the same route when i was coming back some other day. The bus stopped for lunch and i don't know what the hell was i thinking and i had the tickets in my hand and i just teared them :o lol. I was afraid that if ticket checker will come what will i show. But luckily it didn't happen.

You seem to have a more adventurous ride then I did. Here we usually can't forget taking tickets. Most of the stations have a automatic ticket checker even before you enter the platforms. So you either have to buy it or can't enter the platform. But I live in one of the smaller stations where everything runs on kind of trust basis. There are hardly any checkers but then in my case I invited trouble myself or else I could have traveled with no problems. But it was a good experience and taught me something :). Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.

I have boarded trains in the past when there has been someone in my seat but I have just shown them the ticket and they have looked at their own ticket and realised the mistake as some seats are like "1a and 1b for instance" or they have been sat on one of the two seats and have just moved to the window seat when I came on.

Though it seems funny now when narrating,I can understand your tension at the time it happened. It would be really hard time that you faced to hide yourself till the end of the journey. And for 18 hours....oh!that could be a long time more than the actual time, you would have felt.I think this incident will follow you in your dreams as nightmares.
About myself,I haven't traveled like that. After reading your experience, hereafter I will be more cautious while booking tickets.Cheers!

Yes friend, you will find this type of incident happen with every body. I have travelled in train without ticket and caught by checker where I have justified myself infornt of chief Checker. I was left with a verbal warning. The checker can understand the situation and human being. What ever it was happen with you it was purely an accident. Keep it in one corner of memory.

You would haven't given anyone a chance to look at you in your hidden train experience, didn't you.Trains being so long and vast you made your way out,it would have been a little difficult if anyone was in a flight. There have not similar but experiences without a ticket,in my bus traveling, sometimes when I run out of money and cannot miss the bus too,I adjust by not buying a ticket, during this at a time, the conductor of the bus asked for the ticket in a loud noise ,I felt I would have walked to home instead the bus.
During this incident,I actually convinced the person and now he never asks for ticket I give him on my own,at that time without ticket, I said to him that 'I never cheat people and since I didn't had enough money the ticket wasn't bought.

rksbigblue,
Unfortunately, this does not work with air travels where in the past, we will need to have a ticket to check in and obtain the boarding pass for our flight.
I once had my travel wallet stolen in India before I was about to check in for my flight in Mumbai to London. I can assure you that it was really an unpleasant experience sorting out and getting a replacement ticket. The procedure was so excruciatingly cumbersome and I just had to purchase a new ticket to avoid missing my flight. I just cannot imagine those victims who may be budget restricted - it is just hellish.
Anyway, air travel today is literally ticket-less and we just need to show up at the counter at the appropriate time with our valid travel documents and we can be on our way. It certainly beats travels in the past anytime.

rksbigblue I'm sure you are not alone in having an experience like that and I am sure that some places do use that time as still being that day.

I usually buy a ticket ahead of time. I would be quite anxious about the ticket time and I just travel on time. I never miss a bus, or a train.
