would a mother allow her young children to learn how to use a gun?

i had allowed my 3 children (2 boys and a girl), to learn how to fire a gun. we keep a gun at home, first owned by my late husband. because of the nature of his work that he has to drive 3 hours through the almost-unpopulated area in the mountains, his bosses advised that he acquire a licensed gun. because of what happened to us in the past (i am not comfortable divulging any info on this), i feel the need to keep the gun. in the past, i always felt this fear just by looking at the gun. because of the necessity, we just had to keep it and practice firing. in case an intruder barges into our house, any member of the household who has the easy accessibility of the gun can use it. it is therefore imperative that he knows how to handle it. i have long wanted to sell the gun but i always hesitate because of security reasons. hope u share ur thoughts to me on this matter, these might help me with my decision whether to keep or sell the gun. thanks a lot.
