Dependent on the computer?

I think I'm addicted to the computer. Not in the sense that I really really really like to go on it and stay on it gaming or surfing the net for prolonged periods of time, but in the sense that I can't switch it off. I find it really hard to function even if I'm not on the computer and it's off. For me, I need my computer to always be there, open and available for me to get on the internet if the mood strikes. This had led to serious procrastination problems, but I can't shut it down or hibernate it or I start getting a little edgy.
Would you label this an addiction and do you think I have a problem? Or maybe, are you like me and need to have your computer on every waking moment? Did you use to have this habit and have finally kicked it?
Please, share your own stories and experiences!!

that's perhaps an addiction. Computers help us a lot in the things we do. But we shouldn't become completely dependent on them. Sometimes we need to step away from the technology and take a break. Some of the greatest discoveries were done without technology so what's stopping us now?

That's very true. I suppose I should go on a computer "detox" of sorts, but unfortunately that will have to wait until summer. I can't actually survive without a computer during term time because assignments need to be researched and submitted. I remember I went on a week-long camp 3 years ago and of course, there was no internet. I went mad for the first couple of days, but it was a truly liberating experience after then.
Of course...when I got home I got right back on the computer, but it kind of curbed my addiction to it for awhile.

well if that's the real case, i guess your problem is time management. you can still do some offline works by properly managing your time. i just wonder if you still have time for other works like washing own clothes or fixing the bed.i hope you won't get offended because most people i know who are very into their pcs don't have time even for fixing their hairs and they often forgot other things.

Oh no, no offense taken at all. But I definitely take care of my personal appearance and ALWAYS make the bed, haha. But I understand what you're saying, maybe I should turn off the computer for a few hours a day at first and focus on non screen-related activities.

I think, you are little bit addicted to computer,it is better to put a proper time table to use it.Then you can easily get rid of this addiction.I am working as a network engineer in a software firm and using computer is a part of my job.So i spend more than seven hours in front of computer. If i get any free time in between my job,i like to spend it on mylot and other online money making site.I love making money online.I am also little bit addicted to it.But i always put limit on my internet usage. There is a proper time table for me on the net.In the morning i spend one hour on the net and in between my job i spend two to three hours.

Oh yes, I must, I must have my computer turned on. It is really annoying if it's not.
The biggest problem is, we will be having a conversation. Suddenly, a question about the score to a game or something in the news comes up. Of course, we could turn the tv to ESPN or Fox News, and wait to read the headlines at the bottom of the page. But it is so much simpler to look it up on the internet. This is the reason that I need a laptop. Then I won't even have to leave the room. LOL
Interesting discussion! Have a lovely day!
