My brother is ashamed to bring umbrella with him even it is raining hard, he opt to use rain coat, hood or cap rather than umbrella. He think umbrella is only uses mostly by women during rainy and summer seasons. Most men think umbrella is a woman thing..Do they think it have affected their masculine image if they uses it. While some men are disgusted to uses umbrella while other uses it to protect them being wet from rainy days. How about you, do you use umbrella? Are umbrella are only for women or do men uses it too? What do you think?

I am not embarrass to use or bring an umbrella, it is for my own protection, against rain, sun and bad people. You see i work in a farm where you need to walk under the heat of sun for so many hours, That is why i am used to carrying an umbrella.

Yeah, men should not feel ashamed to use umbrella as protection as in doing so could not make you effeminate. Umbrella have many uses too as you could even uses it as protection against bad elements where you could hit them with umbrella or to the old also serves as a cane especially the umbrella being uses is tall with long handles.

lol =D Your brother's thinking is so out-dated.. hehe ^_^ Being caught in the heavy rain does not make him any much macho because he's not in his best state to be facing everybody.. haha =D PLe might even laughing at his foolishness.. hehe In fact, using an umbrella will tend to make a guy look more gentle, and more protective if they know how to take good care of themselves.. Because if one happen to his his gf, wont they be always caught in the rain, with no sense of security at all, even though it might be fun at times?? lol =D

Well, there are always plain colored umbrellas around if he wish to carry any.. hehe ^_^ I think it will be better to be carrying an umbrella in the rain, rather than walking everywhere or in a shopping mall, with wet clothes etc.. hehe ^_^ Just imagine that one cant sit down with our wet clothes, and he will feel cold too? hehe

He just feel awkward to bring umbrella alone but his opinion will differ if he is beside her girlfriend. I think he feel uneasy to bring umbrella with colorful colors, with long handles as it really disturbing for him to carry it always when their is no rain or simply use it as a shades against sunlight and protection from rain..he is more comfortable to wear caps, and hoods all the time..

well, that is the way a lot of men think in my country, whether they admit it or not as I observe only few men uses umbrella..they wait till the rains drop and if they are not in hurry to stop by in the shades. they refuse to bring umbrella unless their is a typhoon and if their is a heavy rains with strong winds umbrella is useless and it usually get blown away by winds, that is why many men prefer rain coat than umbrella..

In some cultures if men always carry an umbrella with them they are seem as a very vain person who others people think have an effeminate attitude that they are afraid to be expose on the sun and uses umbrella as a constant protection..

hello again! i think umbrellas are not only for girls...although some guys really don't like bringing them coz they are lazy...hehe just kidding! with sunny days, i guess boys will always prefer their caps over umbrellas but during rainy days, i think its so unwise to use just a cap..and a raincoat is even more difficult to use... haha, imagine, if you are in a raincoat & you will ride a jeepney? hehe its a disturbance for other passengers! my husband is not ashamed to use umbrella, when he's out i always let him bring an umbrella, but the folding one...just to be ready. he also use the long ones if necessary... but again, for sunny days, he prefer to use cap...even i, i prefer cap coz to be honest, i am also lazy in bringing an umbrella...

yeah, umbrella is a unisex item and both genders could use it. That is true during rainy seasons men should set aside their pride and uses umbrella to keep themselves wet or bring an umbrella when they are fetch their girlfriend. Yeah, the folding one is what i uses too and i could put it in my small bag as I do not like umbrella with long handles as I lost them most of the times as i am very forgettable gal. Also, feel lazy just like you and could not bring with me umbrella if i have no bags..

yes yes, its an unisex item...hehe just a matter of choosing color & style... actually, i find some guys cute using an umbrella during rainy days...specially those ho are using the big black nice umbrella! hehe just imagine dindong dantes in stairway to heaven giving the umbrella to rhian! haha and its romantic to walk in the rain sharing with one umbrella with our love... i have long umbrellas here as well, actually i have 3 with different colors, and another one that is so big that even 3 or 4 people can share... and one folding umbrella... even i have lots of them, still i am lazy bringing them, even i have a bag! haha coz i just have a small bag, i just bring an umbrella when its already raining before i leave the house... unlike my friend, she always have her umbrella in her bag coz she don't like to walk under the sun...hehe

That right..yup and for the guy not to be shy in bringing must choose to buy umbrella with classic color like black, brown or white to appear less effeminate.. yea, that is a sweet scenes being to have a date on the rain and a way to protect a loved from getting wet.. me I like to uses only folding umbrella and not the one with long handles as i often forget it when it is not fit on my bag... I too feel lazy except when it is raining it is then i opt to bring umbrella with me..

My husband is not ashamed to carry or use an umbrella when it rains or when it is too hot to walk under the sun. I guess it is more embarrassing to walk inside a building or office soaking wet because one got caught in the rain rather than be seen carrying an umbrella. I think men who bring umbrellas with them are very practical people. After all, both men and women will get themselves wet when it suddenly rains and they get caught without an umbrella.

yeah, that is true it is best to bring umbrella whether rain or shine as protection. Then, when their is rain you would never feel wrong, because you you are secure that you will never get wet or get cold from heavy rain. Also, umbrella serves as a shades, cane and even as a things to use to defend yourself in cases their is a bad person who will cross your path..

I don't think there is something to be ashamed of for a man in using an umbrella. Does the rain only for women? I don't think so. If it is, i would surely stop using an umbrella, and that is i would consider embarrassing. I have been using umbrella since I was a child, so using is not really a big deal for me. There was a situation when i was in high school and all of my friends were using a raincoat. No one predicted it will rain that day, but my sister was having a cheering practice and so she left her umbrella with me (she always bring one). We were walking out of the campus going to our classmates birthday party and my friends started to kid me about the umbrella, that it looks good on me, perfectly fit only for me. Then the rain fell (thanks to it lol). My friends didn't have anything to cover themselves. Though my friend's house was just walking distance, they were all wet. When we arrived, our classmate's 3 year old sister was so scared of them because they were totally wet. Guess what? Retaliation time. I told them "this is not a Halloween party to scare anyone". I don't know if that taught them a lesson because it surely did on me. Umbrella is indeed important, and it chooses no gender.

yeah, that is true when a heavy rain on the way, it is a clever things to bring umbrella whatever gender you have, but some men disregard to uses it frequently only occasionally when their is a need for umbrella. And getting cold after getting wet is not a good thing, then you could reject using umbrella if you often rides on car or you like to play on the rain just like any kids as some adults enjoy bathing on the rain.lol..But, umbrella have comes now with different purposes, a long handled umbrella could be used by older person as cane or as protection to whip to the unsuspecting robbers and then damage umbrella are being recycled again in some other countries..

the story you told is a good narrative of your experience with using umbrella and it a thing for all genders. Then, if others feel not comfortable in bringing umbrella because of their upbringing and misconception about the uses of umbrella and then realize later that it have a lot of purposes..Have a nice day!atty. umbrella.lol..

That is right..Umbrella isn't only for the rain. Now it has so many purposes just like what you said about the cane thing for the old lol. Um, bathing in the rain? I loved that when i was a child and i still love it even today, though i seldom do it because of work. Too tired and too old to go and play in the rain. Nice discussion you have here. I feel like I'm the lawyer of umbrella, defending it with all my might hehe.

I see a lot of men with umbrella's in my country, so maybe it also depends where you live? Here in Holland most men wouldn't dream about putting on a raincoat. A lot of people (basicly both men and women, allthough men even more) dislike the look of a raincoat. During summer season there are hardly any people here carrying a parasol, no men and no women.

hi cyberfluff, Yup, mostly those who refuse to use umbrella are young men as they do not like to be bother by carrying umbrella especially those with long handles as it is annoyance to them. Though their is an exception if they have girlfriend they are willing to bring one as to get closer to their loved ones especially during rainy season just to be call gentleman would be the one to hold the umbrella while girlfriend is on his side. maybe, your place is not really warmer as in my places the climate is so warm that in order not to be toasted one need to use umbrella during rainy or summer season. Their is a place in my country where even its summer it still very cold as it is located at the top of the mountain that even summer season most opt to wear jackets. thanks.

I think most men just don't mind getting wet. They don't mind so much their hair getting soaked, or the rain getting on their face, because they don't have to worry about makeup running down their wet faces. Of course some men I'm sure feel like using an umbrella in the rain would be "sissy". My dad rarely uses an umbrella. The only time I've seen him use one in the rain, is when he is dressed up, on his way to church.

I think too the same ways as they really not afraid to get little wet when their is rain as some men prefer to take cover under the shades of a building or beside a sidewalks as they are really caught in those situation as only few men remember to bring umbrella every day. It would really depend on the upbringing and the cultures stigma on the mind of the men when they are raise to know umbrella as a woman things they would rarely uses it as it is a minus factors they think if they bring it most of the times. They are afraid to be label as having effeminate behavior..

My boyfriend would be one of those men who would rather get wet in the rain or be late than bring an umbrella with them. He only uses an umbrella when I'm with him. But I think there's no problem if men actually uses an umbrella. I can even see some guys using it during a sunny day.

That is really a wrong notion that many men have in their mind that using umbrella is effeminate but it is really have a purpose to protect us from rainy season, warm and humid classmates and to used as a shades which protect one from sun..

yeah, its only in the mind, and the male egos to protect self for being misinterpret as a feminine like behavior for bring umbrella most of the day. Some men are vain that they like itself to be protected from harsh rays of sunlight and afraid to get dark with frequent exposure. and ,other men see this behavior as effeminate for being too protective with self.

Well, personally when i was a child i embarrass if my mom ask me to bring umbrella in my bag. Even if my mom still put it in my bag, i did not want to use it when the rain come. I prefer running under the raindrops than use my umbrella after at home my mom will be angry because i perfectly wet :) Don't know why but i thought if a man use an umbrella it shows that he is weak, defeat by only the raindrops. Maybe this sounds stupid but i'm sure many man especially when he is still a kid would think the same with me. Umbrella just like a shame thing. That is why some of the man prefer use the raincoat than an umbrella. Anyone agree with me? LOL

Yeah, that is very true to some men they only fail to admit but deep inside their mind they think that umbrella is a woman thing. men also think that bringing them everyday is like an extra baggage who who fill up the empty spaces in his bag and really have lose interest in umbrella when some friends tease him for bringing umbrella every day comparing her to a girl..

If there are men who think like so, they're retards! Yes, I use umbrella as needed. No, I do not believe that umbrellas are for women. I guess that some people have weird ways of looking at things, especially when it comes to gender issues, but this one for me is surely a new one. It's interesting to know that some guys so whole heartedly think that an umbrella is a woman's thing that they'll probably risk a good street-bath just because they don't want to carry something simple as an umbrella.

some men really act that way they even like o get wet slightly and cover their head with a notebook, or anything than to bring umbrella..Some men are wiling to use umbrella if they have a girlfriend to share with it...Then, some depend on their girlfriend to be the one to always bring umbrella not them as they see it as a minus factors to their masculinity, some are just plain lazy to carry umbrella and some think of umbrella as a woman things. But, on the end, umbrella won't hurt their sensitivity, but a sense of usefulness are what an umbrella bring as a unisex item..helps to protects during rain and and sunny days..

they shy away from using umbrella especially those big umbrella with long handle, with colorful colors. Now, their are many umbrella available like the auto tilt 2 or 3 foldable types umbrella where they could put inside bags and open it only when their are heavy rains...Hopefully, men could uses this type of umbrella where they do not need to hold it on their hands as they may tend to forget it when they put it...

Yes, well, I can understand that a umbrella at times may be an added weight... or not so much a weight but a slightly cumbersome item in some cases that you can't just fold into a small thing and put it in your pocket; beyond that however. I guess that there -are- some designs which are more women oriented than others, but even so. Oh, well. May they suffer the wrath of a pneumonia.

It's not a women's thing. I use it all the time and so does my male friends. Some men do not use it, because they believe (No pain no gain, no guts no glory). They want to face the problem (rain) instead of using a remedy (umbrella). That's why when men are hurt (even when their hand is sliced off), they will answer: "ok". Usually men doesn't body check when they feel pain, and thus many die from diseases.

Umbrella is a unisex item and both genders could uses it as protective covering against rain and sun. Yeah, it is true most men pretend to act strong because they have too unlike girls who are very expressive with their feelings. Thus, it is not good to pretend alright when inside one is experiencing pain. It is the same things with using umbrella men would only hold it if their girl friend is near and usually forget to bring when it adds as annoyance.

Hi lian! When I was in college, I never use umbrella though it raining. I always make sure I ride a taxi from home til home so I won't get wet. I don't like having umbrella or maybe I am just lazy. Anyway, most of my guys friends in college are the one who uses umbrella and not us girls. Most of the men I have known are such wimps about getting the slightest bit wet and will opt for an umbrella each time it rains. Maybe they won't carry one as a habit but they will certainly take one if it is raining. If they have to share an umbrella you can be sure they will be greedy too. Men can be such wusses.

This is also what I had observe whether men admit it or not, they frequently associated umbrella as a woman thing and slightly believe that if they carry umbrella most of the time they will be label as male often easily attracted to a female object that disassociate them with their fellow men. This belief lead them to bring umbrella rarely unless their is extreme heavy rain. It is a matter of pride they would only hold umbrella when their girlfriend have it and hold it as they walk beside each other add to sweetness or an romantic ideas spring from it..yeah, men would also feel greedy if they feel to protect themselves and would not share or let an nameless person to share his umbrella, it is a sign of individualism..

ahh. is your brother single? i have a cousin who loves to bring umbrella and his reason is this.... i will tell you the story. one day it was raining and his crush ( a pretty girl at school ) has no umbrella as well. so he decided to buy a folding umbrella that he can keep inside his bag. he brings that umbrella everyday. and atlast another surprise rain came and he has an umbrella and the pretty girl has none. he went next to ger and say " we can share my umbrella " and the rest was history. that was a cute story, and i think it was very gentlemanish... lol is that a word? but i guess a man bring an umbrella for the purpose of sharing is cool? dont you think?

A professional man will use an umbrella to keep themselves from getting wet and ruining an expensive suit. I've never seen a lawyer appear in court with water stains on their suit during a downpour. I have a couple umbrellas but I don't use them simply because I don't want to carry it around when there is a chance of rain. Besides, t-shirts and shorts/sweats won't be ruined by water and dry fairly quick.

I use umbrella, sorry to dropped by on this discussion I am a lady. MY brother do have caps but when its raining he don't have a choice but to use umbrella. If they use only cap they still get wet, isn't it? Much more if its raining hard. Some guys are ok to use umbrella and some are not. and yes a guy pal declared its a girl thing. But there are umbrellas for me, those with black colors. I think its a matter of choice
• Philippines

Yeah, it is a matter of choice, guys could choose a right color to match their clothes and not to be ashamed in using umbrella with colorful colors something which drives them nuts. Umbrella is the most useful tools to protect one self from getting wet and extreme warm sunset. But, it is prefer by guys to use only during rainy days and not everyday like a common shades against the warm rays of the sun which is very opposite among the girls. Some girls could not go outside without bringing umbrellas as they are protecting their skin and make up not to be melt easily.

I think there's nothing ashame to hold an umbrelal for a man during rainy day, it is normal, every person should do something to prevent them from getting hurt(wet), it is human being's nature.
