Question about SSI payments and when an expected check might arrive.

At the end of August I called the Social Sec. office to ask about a second payment on the original backpay amount. I had gotten a letter a long time ago that the amount of back pay due required that it be broken up into two payments. The second payment would come in 6 months. Well, I didn't know if it was 6 months from the time I got the letter, the time my son was approved, etc... When I called the office (the main 800 number, not a local office) I inquired about the 2nd installment of the backpay. The lady, who sounded very competent, said he was scheduled to recieve the check on the 2nd of September. I was very happy because that check gave me the boost I needed to pay rent and get groceries. Well, it's the 5th and the check hasn't come. I did recieve a letter that said he would get the check "by Sept 12th." Have any of you ever recieved a letter like this? If so, was the payment early at all or did it come on the date the letter said? I really need it to come by the middle of the week. My landlord came to collect rent and I had to write a bad check. Monday is Labor Day, so banks won't be open and mail won't run, so I'm safe at least until then. My husband's check goes in the bank direct deposit Friday morning and then I get a small paycheck on Monday. Oh, and I made payout this month, so I'll get some Mylot bucks =) I just NEED this check and wondered if any of you have gotten checks a little earlier than the date by which they said you would recieve it. Any input is appreciated!

The only dealings I have had with government checks is Social Security and in my experience, they pay exactly when they say they will, no sooner and no later, no matter what kind of payment it's for. Do you have anything you can sell or do to make the money before the check gets there?

I don't have anything I can sell or anything. I mean I can get a few dollars here and there, but my rent is over $500...I can't just pop out that much money. Even pawning my jewelry (which I don't even think I would consider) probably wouldn't cover it. I don't have family I can ask...hmmm. I guess if it does bounce it's a one time $30 fee. As long as the bank covers it and doesn't send it back to the landlord we should be good. *praying* I HATE being broke! :-(

I am no guru about this but I have gotten a check early before. I hope for the best but to be honest do not hold your breath. My suggestion would be go to a local payday loan place and see if they will front you your rent. I have had to do that and they did loan me money on social security as well. Take care and happy mylotting as well.

I can't do the check advance thing because I don't have a checking account :( But that is a good idea. My husband already has checks with 2 different places now.

If you had an attorney representing you in the claim then it is possible the check may have gone to him. Checck with him to see if this is so.

No, he's already approved and has been receiving payments like clockwork. It's just this extra check that's throwing me off. I'm wondering if the lady didn't maybe look at the screen and instead of seeing "12" she saw "2." It's hard to tell.

Oh, and we didn't go through an attorney. He was approved first try.
