What's your Opinion on Windows Transformation Packs?

Of late, I'm finding myself more irresistibly drawn to using these applications, which allows me to transform the look and feel of my desktop to a newer version of Windows, like Vista or Windows 7. I also installed a program replicating the sidebar of Vista. It was cool and I really liked the look and feel of Vista for a while. But then, with the release of Windows 7, I downloaded its transformation pack and converted my desktop to it. I originally have the XP, but sometimes it feels nice to change the look to something fresher. What do you feel? Would you go for the transformation packs or the actual OS?

Yeah using Transformation packs for changing the look of windows is a nice move.using the same interface of windows makes it boring sometimes.changing the look really feels like using a new windows although the functions are same.I have also used Vista Inspirat transformation pack and Windows 7 transformation pack.these packs are really great and changes the complete look of the windows while using the same resources of PC it really feels very good and gives a fresh new look to the old windows interface.
well using the actual OS is a different thing as it also gives a lot of new features and enhancements.I will go for the real OS instead of Transformation just to give at least a try and exploring new features of the OS not just the new look it might be better than the OS you are using so better give a try and if like it i will stick with it otherwise Transformation packs are good to go.

Thanks for responding, sedra. You know what, there was a book in our electronics and communication curriculum which was written by an author with exactly the same name as yours!
Well, coming to the point. Yes, I've also used the Vista Inspirat Bricopack, and it was awesome. But as you know, Vista as an OS hasn't got very encouraging reviews from any circle. Most people despised the increased resource utilization, which led to slower computer speeds and frequent crashes. The majority of people nowadays still prefer XP and if their new laptop comes pre-loaded with Vista, they ask the dealer to change it to XP. The only plus point of these new OS's is their sleek new GUI. If we can get that by these enhancements over our own, time-trusted XP, why won't we go for it?

Yeah the book you are talking about is Microelectronics By Sedra & Smith.
Well you are right as vista required a lot of computer resources and still not compatible with most of the generally used softwares and that's why it is not so preferred by users.Hope windows 7 turn out to be a Good OS at least better than vista.

Yes of course. These transformation packs are cool.
But these packs are also very heavy for your systems.
When you install these packs, These packs are loaded along with other themes already in your OS.That means double load on CPU that reduces speed hence I advise you to not install such packs.
After windows 2000 all OS have nice looks. So have fun with original themes.
