I just looked at one and on the FAQ page it said that a one month membership is $59.00 to $200 a month, who has that kind of dough just laying around times are tough and I defintly can't afford that kind of money, I guess all the quality dating sites are for the rich, becuse most of the free ones seem a bit lame, unless you've found one I dont know about. anyway have you ever wondered why all the good online dating sites cost so much?

They know how desperate people are for love. These days people seek love more than at any other time I think. Busy lives lead to a lack of a social life for some. This may be one of the only ways for people to "meet" someone they like. Or they could be raking in the dough because they inevitable will be sued for letting a psycho on their dating site, which results in the murder of one of the other users on the site. Just a theory. lol

Well I defintly would not call myself desperate, my life is just a bit different then most people, and its not real easy for me to meet decent people, and I just don't feel comfortable hanging out in bars and night clubs, and there are a lot of people who have had success in finding companionship online some have even gotten married, not that I'm looking for marriage.
Anyway its just as dangerous looking for love in a bar or night club, dating can be dangerous no matter where we look.

Hey there apples99
I think that some people are simply prepared to pay it because they are so desperate to find love and true happiness. It is the same with anything to do with diets. Any dietry food product is usually nearly twice as much to buy because people are desperate to lose weight. Have you tried plentyoffish? That is the one I am with and my friend too and she has had a lot of success, I haven't because she is a lot slimmer than me and doesn't have a problem getting a babysitter. I am sure there is a network site for the US with plentyoffish

I wasn't suggesting you are desperate apples, I was just saying that many people are out there and sites that charge take advantaege of that. I would definatly give plentyoffish a go, what have you got to lose? I have found that it is always the women that make contact with the men more but that might just be the UK mentality!! Good luck with it and let me know how you get on!

Desperate um no definitely not, I just don't think that its really posible to find a quality companionship in a nightclubs or bar, its just not my style, but I would definitely like to find a companion a friend and a good strong relationship, and online dating sites seems like the easiest way.
Oh I've seen that site before but I've never tried it, I fear that it might not be to good, but I think might give it a second look.

Have you tried Plenty Of Fish? It's totally free and it's not so bad. www.plentyoffish.com Check them out and give them a try and see what you think. Let me know, too. I'd be interested in your opinion. I know of another, but it caters to a specific crowd (those who don't have and don't want kids) and I haven't given them a try yet, so I have no opinion.

The answer is quite simple: They are expensive because people are willing to pay for the service.
It's not that you pay because they care for your feelings and time, so they keep the bad element out. They keep the bad element out because keeping them in is bad for business.
That's how the market works on everything, not just dating sites.
I never used dating sites, but I will tell you this: You are paying for a good service, not for the certainty that you will find love, or a date or whatever it is you're looking for. You probably have the same amount of chances to find someone over myspace, facebook or any other social network.
Just my five cents on the subject.

LOL um I'm not so sure that myspace or face book would be the best place to find more then a roll in the hay. not for people looking for serious companionship. I've heard a lot of mixed things about those sites haha, I'm sure those sites are fine for people who aren't really looking for anything serious, but not for what I'm looking for, dont get me wrong I'm not looking for marriage or anything, but I am looking for someone to share things with and someone who truly cares if you know what mean.

Hello Apples,
Yeah, even I've tried accessing a few dating sites and what I've found out is that the free sites are crowded with idiots and the supposedly good ones have too much of a membership fee. I suppose that is required to filter out the weeds and ensure quality but then, we can't afford them.. There has to be a balance somewhere.

I have no idea why they're so expensive... maybe to weed out people who aren't serious? I'm using Plenty of Fist and Zoosk right now, both of which are free. Haven't had a huge amount of luck, but I haven't been on them long. My sister found her boyfriend on Plenty of Fish.
