My daughter was recently diagnosed with a hearing loss. She is 19 months old. Does anyone have any resources or tips for dealing with a child with these challenges? Specifically, she has a moderate to severe hearing loss bilaterally with progression. She wears hearing aids on both sides.
Also, does anyone have any really good products for helping kids learn sign language? My 3 year old needs to learn to communicate with her as well.

My son, Bryan, is non-verbal. We worked on signing with him. Our library had a nice video to help with basic signs. Bryan didn't have much luck with that and we are going with a communication device, to help him. My son has Cerebral Palsy and is 12. Does your local health department have any resources? They are the ones that do some of the state services like BCMH. Good luck with everything, it is going to be a challenge.

The best thing you can do, in my opinion, is to help her learn however she learns best. If she picks up spoken language best, go with that. If she learns signs easiest, go with that. That is probably the case with as severe a loss as she has.

I cannot think of specific titles, but when my mother began working at Robarts School for the Deaf (in London, Ontario-where I'm from), she was given an ASL "dictionary" and several children's videos that are designed for non-hearing disabled children as well as those with hearing impairments. I would contact the ASL (American Sign Language)Association or group nearest you and ask them what they would suggest. Our local organization has a lending library as well as a list of "bests" for children of different ages and abilities. They even have groups that meet weekly or every other week for families or individuals who are leaning to sign. I'll look into it further (through Robarts) if you are interested in what they have to say.

I'm sorry about your daughter there is a site called nativeremedies.com. they have all kinds of all natural medicines that work I have actually tried a few of them. they might have something to slow down the loss process.
