Fear of Flying

I have just returned from Spain on holiday to the UK on an aeroplane and my whole outlook on flying has changed after reading a fantastic book on flying.
For many years I have not flown and had an incredible phobia about aeroplanes crashing, reoccurring dreams of planes falling out of the sky for. My family has forfeited the chance to spend holidays in beautiful countries, instead spending weeks shivering on UK beaches or watching the rain lash against the window from the inside of a caravan at a UK holiday park.
Last year I took the bull by the horns and flew again. It was not a good experience because I spent the weeks before hand building myself up in to a ball of terror, the flight in a state of sheer panic, the holiday gearing my self up for the flight of doom back to the UK and finally the return flight again in a state of hysteria.
What are your experiences and how have you overcome your phobias?

I am delighted that you were able to get the courage to fly on a plane. It is not the sort of thing that once on you can get off. If someone is frighted of a wasp they could run away. Once on a plane a person had to wait until it flies and eventually lands. I am so scared of flying which is fortunate because I love traveling.
I am frightened of hospitals. I have had three home births because I couldn't imagine having them in hospitals. I had to spend four nights in hospital this year so that was challenging for me. As soon as I was well enough I came back home. I had lost two and a half liters of blood so I stayed weak for eight weeks after that. At last I am back to my full strength.

Well, congratulations in overcomign your phobia in the first place. Reading a book had never occured to you before? It's one of the most common things to do aboard a plane, although for me it's quite boring. The problem isn't the act, rather reading around strangers, I can't seem to enjoy the book properly when put into such scenario.

I never had fear of flying! That´s great because I like to travel. I used to fear moths.I found then disgusting. But one of my grandchildren explained that they wouldn´t harm me. He knew a lot about insects: he wanted to be an enthomologist.
He had cancer and he is now being taught by the Great Enthomologist. I decided to accept his word in his memory and overcame my phobia for the poor moths.
Take care
