Isn't food such an amazing thing? Food, in its basic ingredients, doesn't seem like much. But it is what has been done to it, what it has been combined with and how it is presented that makes my head spin. Cultures from across the world can take the same type of meat, or food or spice and mix it up and create a fantastic dish that tastes nothing like anything else in this world.
So many of us find food to be a luxury, one that we indulge in everyday. Others see it as the devil, constantly counting the calories and staying away from high fat foods and take aways. Where do you stand? Do you find food adventurous, invigorating, and undisputably a necessity in life? Or do you think we are consuming ourselves to death and really need to be careful of what we eat?

It is a fact that America is overweight. We need to learn the we eat to live not live to eat. That being said and also with the knowledge that I am one who has had to loose over 80 pounds and am stll consider about 50 pounds over weight. I try to watch my calories, but that does not limit the varietys of foods all of that mcuh.
It is important that we enjoy the experience of eating. Food should be served in variety and with love and yes in luxury. Fantastic dishes can be healthey and low calorie if done correctly.
So I gues I am mixed, I know that I eat to live but I enjoy lving to eat. I just do it carefully so I can continue to loose wiehgt and become healthy.

Well first of, congrats on losing the weight. So many people out there need to change their eating habits, but refuse to, one because its too hard and two, they just don't want to give it up. Good on you.
As for the rest of your comment, when you take that culunary step and create an adventure out of eating, you really do make it enjoyable and can find it quite fun and invigorating. I agree with you, we need to learn to eat to live, but also enjoy the fact that the world has so many different cultures and exotic dishes...and we should try them. By being conscious of what we are eating and take responsibility of our lives, we can enjoy food and still remain healthy.
Good luck with the rest of the weight, you're on the right track!!!

I won't say that food will kill us. Rather, it is our discipline which will kill us. If we over eat, especially those kind which is high in fats (the usual fast food that we crave for their devilish taste), it is a sure shortcut to grave. However, if we eat good food in a daily basis plus those mentioned above (once ever blue moon), we can have a happy tongue (for irresistible ones) and happy body (the whole). Before I forget, there is an interesting technique in eating the "irresistible ones" without surrendering to it totally. First, smell it as if you intended to do it all day. Then, eat it slowly. Enjoy the taste as you chew it. Do not swallow until there is no more taste. Take time in between. It is better to have a friend eating with you. Have a pleasant conversation as you take time. After the last bite, when you already swallowed it. Drink a full glass of water or it could be juice or even soft drink. You we fell satisfied with one serving and voila! That's it. I heard this advice on a lifestyle TV program and its nice. Try it!

Thanks for the tip, this is a pretty good idea. I agree, you don't have to cut yourself off from the foods that you love, but you should take it easy and really savour those dishes in order to get the maximum experience from it. I think for many, food is the last thing they think about until their stomach is rumbling and then they grab for the easiest thing within their reach. Most of the time, its a bag of chips or a coke. Laziness also sets in for so many, and a drive thru sounds more appealing than cutting up fresh veggies for a quick stir fry. I think if we change our mentality about food and start preping for our meals, we may find that food is a wonderful adventure and cooking is a gift that keeps on giving.
I'll try you advice and see how it goes....thanks for the idea!!!

I love Pan-Pacific or Eurasian cuisine. The blending and fusion of ethnic heritages that once would never happen without our heightened communications now is not comparable to anything. In Hawaii, where I live, we have many of these fusion cuisines. Just recently I passed an Irish-Mexican restaurant that just opened. Some of my favorites in fusion here are Hoku's at the Kahala Mandarin, Sam Choy's and Alan Wong's Pineapple Room where they aren't too pricey. For more formal dining of those kinds of flavors I'd probably go to Roy's.

There was a time when I could go the extra mile because of food, but I found out that as I grew and responsibilities increased, food just became a thing of past time. I know it is not really good but most times \i stay the whole day and just barely eat.

I also think there will be somebody who is not of good food items. The only thing is the taste varies from person to person. I forget that I am on diet when I see my favotire food. I also shed my tensions on my food. I eat a lot when I am tensed and will feel happy after getting up from the sleep after a good meal.

I love Mexican foods...and chocolate and sugar in general..LOL, but I've found that I have to keep myself in check. They say people who eat less live longer. I certainly want to look and feel great as I get older-so I have been keeping myself in check.

Food is great, I love to eat, Even though your comment was a bit off. Because EVERYONE doesn't like food unfortunately. You have balimics and anerexic people who despise food. Which I have never understood this, as much I love to eat.

I enjoy eating tasty food. It can be cooked food like a Biryani, fruits like mango, baked food items, or even raw vegetables like cucumber. I don't like to eat all the time. And I don't like to eat just to fill up my stomach. When I eat, I prefer to enjoy its taste.

I do enjoy food but only to a certain degree. If I indulge too much on the food the tendency is for me to eat a lot. By having a certain control, you would not binge on too much food. Things taken in moderation is better better than having it too much or too little.

Eating food is an enjoy thing, thinking about, after a whole day work you need a dinner for resting, it's a great atomsphere for talking with your family. It's wonderful.
Also sometime we should avoid some trash food, it's harmful for our health.
