My first Where's George dollar

So I had never even heard of this whole where's George business until a few months ago here on myLot and I happened to tell my other half about it and today he handed me a bill that had the words "track this bill online at www.wheresgeorge.com" stamped on the lower left corner in red. I couldn't believe it! I have seen all kinds of crazy things written on money before but could not remember ever seeing anything about where's George and now all of a sudden I have a one dollar bill that someone had entered into circulation that has traveled over 4k miles in 4 years! Is it ridiculous that my money gets around better than I do? I decided to go ahead and register on the site so I could see where the bill would travel to once I spent it and put it back into circulation. I am also now curious to query all of my friends and relatives to find out if they have ever discovered with the message for tracking the bill online.

Yeah, i really envy the dollars for traveling across the world and being carried on by so many strangers every day. Money is drooled almost by every-one and once they had it, wow, can buy here and there. Maybe i should write my paper money that says, "you have been Cursed, you'll never become Rich again"hahaha that would surely change their minds.

The point is to look at what happens to money when you spend it.

This is interesting. I never knew a site like this existed. Isn't it amazing all these sites are available and we find out through the internet after years. LOL I'm upset my money goes places too. Of course, personally, I would like to see it stay in my wallet. LOL

Maybe they wanted to see if the dollar would come full circle. It is an interesting concept.

I am a bit curious about the person who thought of this in the first place.

Yes this is pretty cool ,if you think about it. Shame have not heard of before. I think it should be on the news, its very interesting to track your money. But then again some might not see it that way .Seeing how fast we loose them coming and going all the time. I am going to register also, looks like fun ,in hopes that more people will be get a look at this site. Thanks for the ,I will be looking for your bill to pass through. Then who knows where it will go once it hits the doughnut shop, always need my java in the morning.

I find it just as interesting that someone thought all this up as seeing how the money travels.

I found one the other day and went online to note it and discovered that back in DECEMBER it started in Harlengin, down in the Valley (near Mexico) I thought it was very interesting, so I record the rest of the money I had, tho I didn't have the "where's George" stamp to make it Someone, one of my friends in New York, I think has talked about getting involved in this.

You don't have to have a stamp. You can hand write on the bill as long as you are careful not to mark in any area you aren't legally supposed to.

I have heard of this and think I've even seen that printed on money that I've had before but I've never registered it in. Seems like it would be fun though so the next time we get a dollar bill with that on it, We'll have to do that. Do you have to put where you got the dollar (I.E. : which store, or was it from a relative, friend, employer?) I am sure the money gets around so no I wouldn't think it's ridiculous that it gets around better than you, probably better then all of us. I wonder often how it does, but traveller's I can only assume.

That is pretty cool. I don't think we've got a Where's George bill but when and if we do, then I'll definitely be tracking it! lol!

I've entered two so far. I told my other have to tell his coworkers about it because he thought he saw one in their tips the other day but he lost track of it when they were dividing up the money.

When you enter the serial number you put in your zip code and there is a field for you to add a note about how you obtained the bill.

I think its for "geeks" with nothing better to do. Bit like "train spotters" and "plane spotters", imagine having a journal with the serial number of a train that ran through a station, along with time and date and other info. Sort of seems like life is passing these types of people by, dont you think?

It's amazing to me that these two systems exist and that people are so enthusiastic to participate.

Well, I don't really know anyone who does it. I only know about it because of someone here on myLot. It's not as if the bills pop up on a daily basis so it is not anything you can consider a hobby unless you were to mark hundreds of bills to see if they got back to you or if they were found and entered by other people.

That is a cool site to track where money has been. I have gotten a few dollar bills with that stamp on it but never tracked them. I don't have the time or else I would. I am curious everytime I see one of those bills I get with a stamp on it. It is quite interesting to see how far on money actually travels in such a short period of time. When I have some time I might actually check a dollar bill. Some time. I would love to see what it says.

I am amazed at just how many people know about it. It only takes a minute or two to enter a bill on the website, no longer than posting a myLot discussion and they will email you if tehre is new activity on the bill. Even if you only do one you can see where it travels.

"Where's George" is such a very interesting concept. And yes, I've had one of these bills but I didn't take the time to register online. I wish I would have because I'd like to see where the money that I've had has gone. What I think would be really interesting would be to see if the same dollar bill could be spent over the course of several times, of course in every state in the United States. I believe that it would be possible because of the mobility of people, but then again maybe a dollar bill doesn't last that long.

Dollars bills actually last quite a long time until they are destroyed. I think the bill I have has traveled 4 states, though it started in Hawaii so that was a long distance just in it getting to the mainland states.
