It would depend on the situation, but most likely to be my spouse. My parents raised me, and now I'm a big girl and free to do as I please and make my own decisions. If my parents still want something to control, they should squeeze another kid out. Or adopt a puppy. Now if my spouse had liked... hurt someone intentionally with violence and my parents were telling me to choose.. Im probably going to side with my parents.
Catch 22.

I would try to strike a balance. I know it would mean being between a rock and a hard place, but it is definitely worth a try. A man is not complete without his past, which his parents represent or his future which his wife and the children are. I will persevere till a balance is reached. It is hard for me to accept that there can be an either/or situation if things are handled properly

I dont think it is that tricky.
Parents and wife have their places defined. Of course, wife enjoys the maximum attention and love, but it should not be at the cost of the parents. They should not be deprived of the due respect and affection they deserve. It will be the wife's responsibility to help the husband in maintaining cordial relationship in the family. Similarly, the husband should respect his parents in law and show them the affection they deserve.
I hope I've put accross my point.

It's really hard to choose. Parents brought you up, wife will accompany you in your rest life. If I have to choose one, I will choose wife.
