I am an IDIOT!

myLot really needs that category (if they don't already have it!) Anyhow, the homeowner's association that I live in has a barbecue every three day weekend in the summer. I earn work hours (we have to work around the area 8 hours a year)by compacting the garbage in my trash compacter so that someone can haul it out to the dump (we don't have trash service where we live). One plus is that I get all the recyclables and get the money from them. I usually make about $50 a weekend. My BF and I went down to pick up the bags of trash and I stepped in some mud on the side of a small slope. Of course my foot slid out from under me and I went crashing down. That in itself doesn't sound too bad, except I am a little over two months from having had a total knee replacement. I twisted so that I wouldn't land on the left knee itself, but landed on the left hip and hand. Plus I twisted the knee as I fell. I can still walk, but the knee is the size of a beach ball and walking is miserable. And of course it had to happen in the middle of a three day weekend in the United States. I don't really want to go to the ER (Hey it's like 12 hours sitting there waiting to get taken care of...YUCK and it's the only ER for 50 miles!!!) and of course I'm nearly out of pain pills. I also am a bit miffed as I pulled the muscle in my butt- the one leading to my back. I did spend the afternoon with ice packs on my knee, but I think I tweaked the muscles in the left knee...sigh!!! I swear that I have days that I don't have enough brains to get out of my own way!!!! Thanks for reading this, and thanks for the sympathy ahead of time. I'm mostly posting for the sympathy...although I do know what words it's between in the dictionary. It's between stupid and syphilis.

LOL great story but I am so sorry you ended up hurting yourself. At least you share this story with much humor. Hope you feel better soon, and good luck with the surgery and all the recovery! Best wishes.

Awww Im so sorry to hear that. I know you wanted sympathy and I do have so much sympathy for you but I have to add that this bit did make me giggle.. I stepped in some mud on the side of a small slope. Of course my foot slid out from under me and I went crashing down. I am terribly sorry for laughing but I feel that its best to tell you. I really do hope you get better! Well anyway get well soon and keep off that knee!!

Talk of guts. I would have been thrashing and screaming in pain and Loverbear is all humor. It is rather hard to be laughing and expressing sympathy. Hope the injury is not serious and for a speedy recovery.

I had the physical therapists in awe. When what they were doing that hurt, I would girt my teeth and decide to laugh amd pick myself up and keep going. My brain is going slow today, so I need to return to bed for a while then come back and try again later

hun, we all have days, weeks, months even YEARS like that - I'm sorry you rehurt your knee, but you aren't an idiot Heck, I was 3 months post-rotator cuff surgery and I went down really hard, on the right arm, tho I did twist as well and actually didn't get the shoulder, but HOW the HECK can you get up without using your arm when you can BARELY get up USING it? and I'm in my back yard early on a Sunday morning with NOBODY around the help out or even hear my screams....

I lay there for a while, wondering what to do. I do that when I fall, lay there until I determine if I've really hurt anything... After the worst of the shock wore off, then I could tell I hadn't further hurt my arm, so I got up on my hand and knees and found something to lean on to help me get up. I went inside, woke up the roommate to go catch the cat I had been going after when I fell while I took a shower to get the mud off me and see if any of the scrapes were in need of doctoring (or more.) I only go down about once a year, so I went down back in January, I guess this year is COVERED...

You and I are in the same leaky boat. When I did my first fall on the patio no one was around to hear me call for help. Some how I managed to crawl to a table and work myself up off the floor like a drunken camel. I limped to the couch and laid there for a couple of hours wondering if I screwed up everything in the new knee. Fortunately I hadn't, but it seems like I keep trying. My neighbor and best friend had rotator cuff surgery and she took the same kind of header. On the right arm. Only she did damage that they couldn't fix. She's got some limited movement of the arm and little strength in her right hand. Her husband was there to pick her up off the ground and get her in the house. It was funny listening to them afterwards, they have some of the funniest fights! And both of them will continue to do as they darn well please. As for getting up without using your arm has me stumped. Just before the surgery I did weed eating and I was on slopes that were so unstable that I had to hold the rope in my teeth so I could stand upright. Unfortunately we don't have ropes handy when we fall...and we don't have the forsight to fall someplace close to something that we can use to oochie ourselves back on our feet! So you lay there, helpless, trying to figure out what to do, if you screwed everything up from your surgery, and how long you can lay there without needing to go to the bathroom. (I don't know why, after I fall, the first thing I need to do is pee.

I'm doing better this afternoon. I got up this morning not feeling too swift. My leg was hurting and I couldn't focus, so I figured my best bet was to lay back down for awhile. I laid down at 9 a.m. and woke up at 2 p.m. It did help though. I went out and sorted the recycleables so that I can take them in tomorrow for some extra spending money when we go to Santa Maria. I hope you are having medical attention about your case of flu! Make sure to drink lots of fluids and ginger ale. When I was a kid my Mom would dump gingerale down me like crazy when I had the flu. It helped tons. You need someone there feeding you bowls of homemade chicken soup with plenty of noodles (I love chicken soup with tons of noodles...its comfort food to me) and wait on you hand and foot until you're better. I am going to crawl in a hot bath and soak the leg and see how much that helps. I'm hoping it will help out a lot. But the best thing is other than a few bruises, a scrape on my ankle bone, and some extra soreness in the surgical area I'm okay. Of course I'm not one to baby myself over something like this. As long as I can get up on my feet and walk I'm okay. As for the pain medication, my refill hopefully will be in tomorrow. If it isn't I'm going to raise some hell about it. Khuay and Willy send their love and purrs, and I send love and hugs to you- get over that horrible flu quick. Bill is scheduling our flu shots this week. There is no way that I can't get one, especially with the asthma. Take care, and go ahead and have a good laugh at my popular pratt fall. Love & Hugs Toni

Yes, i am. But i can't say it. It's just what i say in my heart. Why? In christianity there is a barrier to not mock the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is in us. So, i had been taught for over and over to not mock myself, because it means i had mocked the Holy Spirit. Some people can be rude by telling you to admit that you're an idiot. I had some people here, near my house, did that too. They satisfied their lust by what they said over and over. I know some traditional chineses are very rude in teaching the discipline on their children, but if they think all people as their children? I don't mind to be said as an idiot. Many people thinks they are clever, but it's just in their mouth, they are actually a sounding empty barrel. I don't know why some can act that way. Perhaps because they had nothing to do, or don't want to learn until won't study anything than just heed other's business. If people asked ' are you an idiot?' I'll say, "Yeah. Because i can't do anything without God. I can't even walk without Him." Only God - i think - who is smart. Many people thinks they are smarter than the others. But it's just a brag. Right? Are you cleverer than God? I'm sorry, this is not about you Loverbear, this is just about some people that had attracted my attention. I hope you don't mind...

Thats gotta hurt, my hubby had knee surgery done on his knee prior to us getting together and he was off his knee for a couple months he still has problems with it now once in awhile but he says its a bit better then it used to be. he still figures that he needs more surgery done one it but he won't do anything about it untill he's laid up and can't move at all.my suggestions for you is don't put the ice on your knee for more then 10 minutes at a time alternate between heat and ice if you only do one or the other you will not feel any relief and the swelling won't really go down. also wrap a tensor bandage around your leg just under your knee where it bends this will give you a little stability and still allow you movement in your knee so that the muscles in the knee don't get weak (again)

What a pity! Take care. Don't disrespect yourself too much. Sometimes it just happens, but it does not mean something of your ability. Go ahead. Everything will be fine. God bless you.

Poor thing, I hope you feel better soon! NO, you're not an idiot, but we DO have an interest group for it! Under "things I've done with my life" there is an interest group called "been an idiot". There is also a category I made some time back called simply, "duh!". LOL I also created "ranting about things which annoy me" and a few other gems here at mylot. I have days like your ALL THE TIME, I fear I too am an idiot and a clumsy one at that. The emergency room sucks, especially on a holiday weekend unless you are interested in seeing all the craziness that arrives on a stretcher there. Call your doctor in the morning, he or she will probably want to see you to make sure everything is still where it is supposed to be. Good luck and feel better.

Hmmmm. actually, there is. IF you know Grandpa Bob here at mylot or the Lamb they had that category in their interest but not because they are really idiots but it's like a show or something. Regarding your topic, am glad you still made it out alright after going through that horrible experience. hope for your recovery soon, have a great day!
