Hi
I have a question about HB count. During pregnancy, do we need to maintain HB count above 11? Yesterday, we got the results from test lab saying that HB count is 9.8. Is this abnormal?

hi, i'm a registered nurse and i think i can help you, too. pregnant women usually have low hemoglobin count because your body is supplying blood to yourself and to your growing baby. that's why doctors would usually prescribe iron supplements so that you won't become anemic.

Hello. I am a medical technologist and i might be able to help you. The normal values of hemoglobin for pregnant women is 11-12.
Usually, doctors would recommend Ferrous sulfate or iron supplements to increase the hemoglobin values. In most cases, pregnant women do develop iron deficiency anemia.

Hi rgmuthu - During pregnancy it is good to maintain HB level to 11. But in the usual case most of the women get iron deficiency. I sugest to take iron supplements daily which is prescrible by doctor. Also suggest to eat lot of greens and dates which helps to increase HB level.
Dont panic. Happy lotting.
