What's your opinion on anime? Is it cool or is it lame?

Depends on the anime were talking about. Some people(mostly the elderly) would think of anime as the simple western animations like Tom and Jerry, or the Flintstones. They would think 2 things if they think of this. First, That This sort of cartoon violence is not right for children. While the others would think that it's alright for kids. But if you go for the anime as in the animations of the modern age(or the otaku age): then people would think of 3 things as well. First, This thing is not suited for you younglings out there, it's more mature than the normal animation. Second, This type of animation is not for you, live up to the animations and video found here in the western side don't go there!, and the Last It's alright to watch this anime,as long as you keep in touch with the english culture rather engulfing yourself with more of another sublanguage. Well, something like that. But for me I LOVE ANIME. I'd do anything evel illegal gets just to watch :D

Well, as those people you mention, I do find them to be just "cartoons"; it's what anime is after all. Beyond that, I don't see where's the difference in between seeing that and watching a live-action TV series of any kind. Anime can be as much oriented to a 5 year old crowd as to one much older, provided that people don't care uniquely for the mundane thing of every day life. Plots can still be as much if not more intricate though, the action can be similar to take of an action/fantasy movie and go beyond since there are no limitations except creativity. That said, there are good and there are bad series, but, to call anime as a whole as lame it mostly means that the person answering you either can't stand cartoons or just doesn't realize that it can be something more serious meant to other than 5-year olds.

I was lucky enough to be able to watch anime since childhood. They were my favorite type of shows even so, at the time i was unaware i was watching anime. I think most kids have watched them thinking of them as nothing but cartoons. And so do many people. But anime isn't for everyone, just like certain movies or shows aren't for everyone. In spite of that there are shows wich everyone will enjoy, and even the ones who claim to hate anime most, may find they like. In fact I found it funny that a guy who really hated a certain show, kept watching it just to be able to keep bashing it. And there are others wich can discard an entire show, just because one episode out of countless was not to their likin. However anime is special then most other shows, because it demands your reaction. You may either love it or hate it. Usually there is no choice between. And that's where anime will lose ground. Cuz if you get the wrong show to a person, that one may hate it and choose to never watch any other anime show. I've had that exact feeling watching an otherwise really appreciated anime show i think it was called "dragon ball z". Several of us got really bored after they took almost 3 episodes to charge and kick an enemy. However there are countless shows wich deserve to be watched. Some will speak to your heart, others to your mind, and some are so well made, that in spite of being linked to the next or previous part, each episode is almost like a very good movie. And lets face it most movies today suck so much, it pays better to watch 5 episodes of anime rather then one crappy movie.

Anime for children and artist is cool. So it's cool for me. I am a fan of a lot Anime. Like Bleach, Naruto, Fushigi Yuugi, Ranma 1/2 and a lot more! Some anime's stories are lame but not all. Most of them are humiliating and quite green.

I think anime should be given a fair chance by everyone because people simply don't want to watch by saying something like: "they're cartoons". I seriously doubt someone will dislike shows like "Grave of the Fireflies", "Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal", "Monster", "Cowboy Bebop", just to name a few. As there are many genres to choose from, everyone can find something for them, provided that they have an open mind and don't jump to conclusions right away. Anime can show you things that you won't easily find in movies (if at all), at least from the story perspective.

Well this IS the anime section so don't expect anyone to say they hate anime...me included...I think anime are for everyone to enjoy and for all ages, those that don't like them or hate them before they give them a try are fools in my opinion, and its not only about anime, that applies for everything of course.

I don't know why SOME people don't like anime!! To me they are just everything I need!! I guess people who can't figure out the differences between Anime and cartoon are the ones who don't like Anime!! I'm crazy for Anime!! And in my opinion Anime is not cool but its totally absolutely mind blowing, amazing, and all the good compliments!!! And one thing for people who don't like anime: "LIVE AND LET LIVE". If you don't like Anime then never mind but let those people enjoy who really like Anime!!!

Hey Kara, I am a massive anime fan and think it is fantastic. I have heard that some people don't like it, but I have never been able to understand that myself really. The animes I like are often dark, or have darker elements, and so I wouldn't exactly say that they are for children lol! I think people are missing out if they don't at least give one anime a try before they say they that the entire genre isn't for them. Oh well! All the best, Dranz
