Has myLot Nearly Cost You Your House?

I have just learned that if I'm going to be a myLotter, I had better stay away from the stove.
Sitting here engrossed in the discussions, I suddenly realized I was hungry, so I went down to put a couple of hot dogs on the stove. I came back to read and reply to a few more discussions while I waited for them to cook and totally forgot about them. The next thing I knew the smoke alarm scared the bejeesus outta me. "oh no, the hot dogs!"
The smoke was ridiculous and the hot dogs were so glued to the pot I had to throw it out. I was never so scared in my life. I thought the house was gonna go up for sure. Thank God it's breezy so I was able to clear the smoke pretty quickly. I'll never do that again. From now on no myLotting while cooking.
Has being so involved in myLot ever brought any of you to a close call like that?
xoxo

mylot costs me one whole pizza too!my son was so mad at me...that was his dinner.. I took it out of the fridge and placed it on the electric stovve,he likes the edges crunchy...but the timer is broken so i just told myself to check on it every few minutes..
one whole pizza cooks for about 10 miinutes in out stove at high settings.
I was so engrossed with the many discussions...and when i remembered the pizza it was too late.. you can't even eat just the center ..it's so stiff and burnt ..
can make a good frisbee though...........
I am glad we had a few canned goods lying around...

LOL. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. You should have just played it off to your son, "well, you like the edges crunchy, so here you go." LOL
Yeah I was happy we had some peanut butter. That's what I ended up having.

Oh my goodness. I am glad you are okay. I have never done anything like this before.
But I do know how involved my lot can be. It is very addicting and you don,t want to give up on discussions and responding..
Honestly that,s why I hate cooking. It could be the easiest thing like hot dogs or noodles. I just get afraid of getting so occupied and forgetting and having something left on the stove.
Try to be careful. I am glad it was nothing to serious. It could of been worse.
Good thing it was not...
Take care Happy My lotting to you

Thanks emilie. I do plan on being more careful. From now on I'll be standing over the food 'til it's done. However, when you want to get back to myLot, even microwaving something for 60 seconds seems like forever.

Yeah. In fact, from another discussion I was in about being patient I said that I believe it was the invention of the microwave that started the decline of peoples' patience.

Hello Cyne
Sure, I burnt the kids dinner once but not beyond the point it was not longer edible. It was fish fingers and I took the breadcrumbs off the burnt side. I was not that popular that night for sure. Now I don't even log on if I am cooking the kids dinner!!

It is handy to have the laptop in the kitchen but then I found it got in the way a bit when I was serving up, I couldn't fit all the plates on the side, the laptop and dish up at the same time. You also risk spilling stuff on it. I never did but came very close on a few occassions!

Well I can't wait 'til I get my laptop. I'll be keeping it in the kitchen, that way I can multitask. This being upstairs in the office sux big time.

..lol..
That's so funny...
That's a good decision. No myLotting while cooking..
I have no such problems. I will use myLot only when i got wake up so early and during that time my internet is unlimited free..
So, during that time only i use myLot mostly..
I have free internet access during 2am to 8am..
So, i download some movies that time and parallelly using myLot.
I use it mostly from 5am to 6 am and go to sleep again and wake up at 8 am for my daily works..
sometimes i may woke at 4 or 4.30..
Have a great day.

Yeah it's funny now dbu. But it sure wasn't at the time. My heart was beating so fast, and I was frantically trying to fan the smoke out with my tea towel. The smell is still there though. I hope it's gone before my boyfriend gets back.

I know that it wasn't funny at that time. I have been embarassed many times before friends and feel bad that time and when i remember that it looks funny for me.
Sometimes somethings not looks funny when it happen and it is funny when we remember it later.

Wow, no, that hasn't happened to me yet. Thank goodness you and your house are okay. That would have scared the bejeesus out of me too. Now I will admit to overcooking food because I was on the computer, there might even have been black spots and food stuck to the bottom of the pan and it might have needed to be thrown in the trash, but that's all I'll admit too! LOL

Well far be it from me to make you admit to more than that horsesrule. But I think we all know the truth here. . . LOL
And that pot I had to throw out was bloody expensive too.

mylotting can be so addictive and when am here the hours seems to tick so fast. Luckily you realized your hotdogs at the nick of time. Otherwise it could have been costly. When am at the height of mylotting my mouth never stopped instructing my daughter to run errand around the house. I am glued to my chair mylotting and would not want to do any other thing. So before I log in to mylot I would make sure I have done my household chores otherwise my daughter takes care while I am in mylot.

You're lucky to have your daughter there to help you out. I try to do my chores in the morning before signing in to myLot, but sometimes, I just can't wait.

OMG!! Really!!! Well I am glad that it wasn't something bigger than a smoke and no harm was done!
I haven't had such a situation while browsing through mylot but I have had one or two situations of the kind while watching TV. I usually keep milk to boil and forget about it. So it has happened twice that I kept milk on the stove and sat down to watch TV. Then during the commercials I suddenly realized that I had left milk to boil and by the time I ran to take care of the milk it was all over the kitchen platform.. Phew it took me a lot of time to wipe the milk and the smell lingered in my hands for the whole day!!
So I usually take care of such things now and if I have to boil or cook something then I finish that first before taking up other task.

Oh boy and milk boils up so fast too. Even when you stand there watching, it'll sometimes just get away from you.

CynergyDiva,
i hope you realize just how lucky you were. Thanlfully your loss was very minimal.. just a burnt pot and burnt hotdogs.
I have never been so engrossed in mylot. i usually come here only when i got time to spare. But i can imagine how tempting mylot can be.
i had a friend who was so engrossed in a program on the television that she forgot that she had kept something on the stove and she ended up with a burnt kitchen. Luckily nothing worse happened to her.

Oh my gosh! I feel bad for your friend. Yes I definitely know how lucky I was. That's why I have vowed never to come back to the computer room when I'm cooking ever again.

No I actually try to be in mylot when I don’t have much to do and when my baby is sleeping so I don’t have to be running o see were he is. I do get into arguments with my husband because I normally get online at night or early in the morning and he would tell me “you rather be in the computer than with me” and there are time that I get tired I will talk back to him. Normally I would tell him “it is my only paying job that I have at the moment”, so far with this site and other s I have earned 20 dollars in 4 months or more. But I keep trying every day to find one new way to earn money since I am unemployed.
I guess you have to be more careful and I hope that never happens again and also that it wont happen to me. I think I would go crazy if it did since I would not know what to do or were to run.

Well, if your hubby is already upset over your computer time, then you will have to be extra careful that it's not the cause of anything like what happened to me, or for sure he'll ban you from using the computer at all.
And no, it won't happen to me again. I have totally learned my lesson

I will mylot while I am cooking too, but I do go check on my food once in awhile, as it is easy to just sit here in mylot, and forget I even have anything on the stove. Most of the things I do, go in the microwave, so I just wait for it ot beep then I go eat. I am so glad to hear though that your house was saved, and most of all that you are alright. I am sure that had to be scary for you. I know, somtehing like that would literally freak me out. When I do cook on the stove though, I find it much easier to just close mylot out, that way I can concentrate on the food do that nothing would happen. Especially at my age, as I live alone and it would be devastating to say the least if something should happen. I hope it never does. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.
