Do you roleplay? What kind of roleplaying do you prefer?

So, do you roleplay?
For those who don't know what it is, imagine roleplaying as performing the part of a character in a theater play, except that in this case rather than the objective being to follow a script to the letter, beyond the basic setting of a plot, everything is improvised by the participants.
It can take several forms, be it live-action, no different than in a play, or over text for example.
For those that do roleplay, what is your preferred kind and how do you play it out?
You're interested in romance stories? Action? Sci-Fi?
You prefer to enact the story on a stage of some sort? Or over the internet in some forum or instant messaging?

I used to roleplay, all kinds of roleplay that you can probably imagine, but eventually I got bored from it. I could never find people that were willing to make the stories grow and always seemed to try make their characters big or simply take the story to a perverted end.
