Hi all
I was taking a psychology class and we were discussing obedience and what our personal definitons of the word was. One classmate said that obedience was when a person follows the rules of a person of authority withoutt question. Another classmate said that it's okay to be disobedient of the rules cause harm to one's self. And another classmate said that it is wrong to blindly follow another person just because this person supposedly has authority. So my question to all of you is what is your personal definiton of obedience and when if ever is it okay to be disobedient?

Hi gelibean. Such a topic I always like. Obedience is relationship between older and younger. By the words older and younger, I not only mean the age but also the status between two persons. There is always old man and young man, in profession superior and subordinate, teacher and student... So younger person should be obedient to the older person, subordinate should be obedient to the superior. Students should be obedient to the teachers.Obedience means not just bowing your head and silently listening. Give respect. Even if you disagree with their views oppose it in a polite, respectful and decent way. Not to show any rudeness towards the elders , superiors and teachers. I think this definition is clear.
Thank you for the opportunity.
WITH BEST WISHES.

Obedience is following what's right and what's told unto you. Even if you do not want to do something, like washing the dishes or running an errand and you still did it for the one commanding you, that's obedience. Following the command of the more authoritative person.

You get all the points, and your classmates opinion are right. Obedience is saying yes all the time even when deep inside your mind rebel and you like to say no. You get to say yes in order not to disappoint the people..Disobedience is not ggod when you follow without thinking or without logical thinking, it makes you act like a robot without ability just follow what is being ask off in order not to make offense to other people...
