I am in need of learning how to create vector art with Gimp or a similar program. Can anyone head me in the right direction?

Gimp is a program for raster art, like photoshop. There is an open source program for vector, it's called "inkscape". You can find it here: http://www.inkscape.org/ I have never used it so I can't tell you how good it is or how to use it, but it claims to be similar to adobe illustrator. Let me know how it works out for you.

I do know about vector art, Gimp is a great program but I use Adobe Photoshop, although if you really want to master vector arts, you should start learning Adobe Illustrator now. I've been into vector arts for quite some time now, in fact I have a tutorial blog about photoshop which include Vector arts, if you want you can visit it. "erwinfadri.co.nr" though I rarely have time now to do vector, its time consuming but result are satisfying.
