mitsubishi sportronic tiptronic transmission

i have an '06 mitsubishi eclipse with sportronic/tiptronic transmission. it is an automatic transmission that can be used as a manual. by shifting up using the + sign and shifting down using the - sign. how does this sportronic/tiptronic works? do i have to let go of the gas pedal while changing gears or should i just continue stepping on the gas pedal? thanks for whoever replies.
