I did... worked part-time during my school and college days. i never took pocket money at home or borrow money from anyone during those days. worked for a lot of promotional campaigns, as a sales man, etc.. i think parents in India and many parts of the world shud encourage this. its ridiculous to think an 18yr old needs to be taken care of by parents. we shud get them used to reality of the world right from the academics.. the reality that world ain't so easy place to deal with. Working part time in the young age makes u realise the value of money and u learn how to manage it. the only duty of parents is to see that kids dont get used to money alone and stop their education.

i didn't but i spent for my own when i decided to proceed to take another course in college. my parents only spent 2 years for my title (not a degree). after that, i found work and that sustained myself and my studies in proceeding to a four-year course and finished it with the degree.

that's nice I dream of finishing my course too but for now it is impossible.. maybe soon I will continue it on my own! they say that reality: one must survive living even if it's hard and full of trials.. no man is and island. hehehe!

Yes I did. But still I get help from my parents. They still gives me money. But mostly I depend on my education loan to pay for my expenses. I do agree that part time should be encouraged, but I do not find it ridiculous for 18 years old to get help from parents because they still young and vulnerable and easily influenced by something bad, so help from parents is necessary.

I never had to work when I was in school right up to my university days. My parents don't encourage it because they think that that will distract me from my studies. But after my university days when I joined the teaching profession, I was already earning while I was pursuing my Diploma in Education.
