Can Noynoy Aquino be trusted on Agrarian Reform Program?

Yeah, people are saying that Noynoy Aquino is an upright person. But, I have to ask this question because seeing him crossed his fingers and shut up his mouth while farmers were being tractored with bullets at Hacienda Luisita gives me an idea what he will be. Can we trust him?

I actually have mixed feeling when it comes to the Agrarian Reform Program... i work for a person who inherited like hundreds of hectares of land in different places in my province and she voluntarily put most of them under CARP so she is left with what the law says she can retain... she did that like years ago... and most of the land she voluntarily gave away no longer belongs to the beneficiaries... most of them sold the land and now the are back to being landless and as poor as ever... she is no longer obliged to help them unlike when these farmers were still her tenants... This like one way on how i understand why the Conjuangco's opted to change Hacienda Luisita into and industrial estate rather than agricultural lands... but i know that is just a fraction of whole story of Hacienda Luisita... Now going back to Ninoy... he has yet to make his stand regarding Agrarian Reform and that is really very interesting to know...

A lot of people are already clamouring for his stand on the Hacienda Luisita issue... so we just need to wait... but i am sure he alone can not decide on what to do with the 6,000 + hectares of land that belongs to the Cojuanco since it is already run as a corporation with a president, board of directors, and stock holders...

I do like your point that farmers eventually lost their farms (awarded). That's the problem with this Land Reform Law and of course with us farmers, the pressure of putting some food on the table is more than the desire to be emancipated. I would like to see how Noynoy handles this issue and not those showbiz talk of hair losses and engagement to people. Down to issues not to personalities.

i don't think noynoy and his relatives will give up their vast hacienda. that's where a sizeable chunk of their fortune is coming from (from the blood, sweat and tears of peasant-farmers). they're landlords/hacienderos through and through. noynoy is somewhat evading the issue. he has been working on their beloved hacienda almost half his professional life (as a manager, etc.). he was the congressman when the farmers were massacred...

Yes, this will haunt him. Definitely, this issue will be his biggest hurdle in order for him to become a leader of this country. Create as many discussion you can handle. Join every interests and post good threads. Welcome to MyLot and happy mylotting.

After reading spoiledbrat802's post on this thread: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2126746.aspx I don't think I will anymore. It's true that Noynoy is just riding on Cory's "magic", which doesn't even have any effect on me, and that's about the only thing that boosts his charisma. The sad part is, there's no one left to vote for anymore..

That was a hell of a discussion and to the point of getting negative points (sigh..). Noynoy can't come out from his parents' legacy, that's for sure but what I was trying to point in this discussion, will he ever touch the hacienda and put it under CARP. spoledbrat802's chronicles coincide with KMP's demand for Noynoy to answer the issue on his hacienda and that's the issue to watch. I hope he will not dodge the volleys when thrown to him these coming months. Come on. Can somebody give a positive answer and why?

I think it is from this issue that his candidacy would be drag down. Well I think this is something that he should prepare during the campaign. He should be prepared from answering this. For me I would open my mind to anything that comes in the light. I would not believe all since most of them would just be block propaganda against him. For now, I would wait for an answer about this issue before I would judge him what kind of a leader he will be.

I do agree with you, rsa101. The only intelligent thing to do for now is to wait what will be his stand on this CARP in relation to his own family's Hacienda. Definitely, this will come out and it is coming out now but still he is mum about it. He will be dragged into this and I hope he could give us a decent answer. However, I could not also help myself, as early as of now, asking if I could entrust the future of my children to a son who is riding on the legacies of his parents. I just hope that people will not vote in that aspect. All of the aspirants owned vast parcels of land which are over the provision of CARPer but Noynoy is the only one with (known) blood on his hands. I still have to hear from those die-hard Noynoy followers to clarify this for me. I do hope they will not shy away from this issue.

This is yet to be proved if he really deserves the trust that his supporters are giving him now. But I think he could be trusted. I know that the Cojuanco's own the hacienda, but he is not Hacienda Luisita.

Idaantipolo, thanks. Yes, I give him the benefit of the doubt. He could be trusted in some points but I would like to know if he is trustworthy in terms of instituting this land reform to which his father fought for, put into law by his mother but fell short of completing it because they were also landlords. Spoiledbrat pointed above that at least Cory kept her cards but Noynoy came out to defend the hacienda's minions.

The 6,400 hectares of land if im not mistaken is so vast just to be given away just to be proven worthy with his political ambitions. I doubt he could subject the hacienda to be distributed to the farmers. After which do the farmers could really take care of it? Keeping it more productive as it is? They would just sell it to another landlord and the cicle of landless and landlords would just be the same.He would rather keep the current scheme under agrarian reform program that instead of giving the land to the farmers the farmers would just be given percentage of the income of the land. Which i think is a win win solution to it.

Okay, iceydon, the cycle is there, i never doubt it. But, is Noynoy willing to follow the law signed by his mom? Or, is he willing to continue what his father and mother started? Noynoy is threading and trading the line of his parents, wasn't he?

if noynoy wins(hope not), the agrarian reform program is a thing in the past. it will not prosper just like his moms term. noynoy was the congressman when a bloody incident happen in their own land and noynoy dint do anything to defend the poor farmers. I just hope mar will accept as his vice president so he can help noynoy if ever he wins. again.. i just hope he wont win.
