No Responses, Why?

Have you been with Mylot for sometime? Have you always received at least one response for every disucssion you started? If so what was it? I have one discussion that was made about two weeks ago, and I have yet to have someone respond to it. And it was a good topic about texting. What words help your discussion get seen so someone will be intriqued enough to comment on it? What suggestions and ideas do you have for someone who's been with Mylot almost three years?

Yes, it happens sometimes every once in a while, I created some discussions that I wouldn't get any responses, some maybe 1 or 2 responses, it is really discouraging. I sometimes feel like I just want to delete the discussion but I cannot... so I can just create another one.

Does that discouraging feeling get you pumped up to dig deeper for the next discussion? What is your course of action since we can't delete? Do you redo the same topic or go in a total different direction?

so far so good. Yes i have always got a responce to my postings. Well i dont think i can give you too much advice as you have been here longer than i have however all i can say is that your subject line should be eye catching. For anyone to respond to your message the heading should be interesting. Thanks

Great advice, thank you. I think I will try to repost and change the headline.

There are lots of discussions that have no response. There might be a variety of reasons why they have been left unanswered. Perhaps they don't have a catchy headline or else have been posted at the time when most of the majority mylotters are asleep. Or perhaps the text is too long or the language is not very clear.

Thank you for such a detailed response. It is greatly appreciated. These are very helpful tips. I'll be sure to pass them along.

Only about half of my discussions get any responses. It seems the main thing is the interest categories they get posted in. Interests with few users tend not to get any responses since most of the few are inactive. The interest groups with more users in them get noticed more and more likely to have active people that will respond.

I usually in the same catergories and get responses, even if only one or two. But in three years this is my first no response.

Hi Dramaqn, just as a suggestion I would like to tell you to use some catchy headlines, because people can't see your discussion's description. So a good and catchy headline of your discussion is half the job done. People won't ever respond what doesn't sound interesting . But a nice , clear and catchy line won't go unresponded. and this is why you will find that the most responded discussions always have a attractive headline. So now you know what does it mean to have a good headline. Have a good day!!

Ok, that's great advice. I want to repost the discussion, can you read it and give me a suggestion on a headline?

Thanks again. I redid the discussion with a different headline, and I had a response within the hour.

Since im still new here in mylot, i also have a discussion with no response but im not discouraged about it coz i think some mylotters are not just interested about it. Others maybe cant relate about it that is why that there is no reply. Anyways, i find it informative even by just reading the responses of fellow mylotters. I've learned new things thru mylot which i'm thankful to a friend of mine for referring to us mylot.

Yes, mylot can be very informative. I have learned many things on here. Mylot definitely fits the phrase: each one, teach one.

Don't worry about not getting that much responses for the discussion you have made. I have made a number of discussions here too, but i think only 10% of these discussions received responses. For me it's really really unfortunate. But I know there is nothing that I can do. I am grateful for those people who really take time and effort in responding to my discussions. In return, I usually respond to discussions that have "no responses" in the list, or discussions that were made by new users. I really am discouraged to post new discussions. Right now, I'm putting all my effort in responding instead of "creating" discussions. I hope that users here will be more generous in sharing more of their minds(^_^) Although, I also know that if a person does not know something about the topic, you can't force them to comment anything right?

No, we can't force them to comment. Well, thank you for your support and comforting feedback. Good luck with all of your discussions and replies.

well it may be good topic for you but not for everyone else. I posted quite a few discussions that I feel are interesting but didn't get a lot of responses. but if I posted provoking discussions I could get at least more than 10 responses. so it depends on mylotters what exactly they like to respond at the time. sometimes it also depends on your popularity. I noticed that when I was active a few years ago the least responses I got was 5 and I could get over 20 easily, whatever discussions they are. but then things happen in my real life and I was not active about 6 months or so. when I returned it's almost like being new member again and if I can get more than 1 response that's lucky. I'm not planning to be active on mylot forever. This is a great forum, but things have changed in my real life I need to spend more time there than here. So if I don't get many responses it's not a big deal. I sure won't earn as much as I used to, but earnings here don't go anywhere aside from paying my ebay selling fee anyway. I have met a good friend and I stay in touch with her outside mylot, so I don't have to be on mylot all the time.

This is true, but seeing how I believe 95% of people who come to mylot probably text, have texted, watch kids text, etc. that this discussion would get at least five replies. But I got nothing. I was just baffled that's all. Thanks for your reply, I greatly appreciate it.

I seldom start new discussion, but response to mylotter's discussion. And I always give the responses for the ones that I am instereted. So, I believe people here will repond your discssion if they are interested.

I know, but I still can't believe I didn't get one. I was for sure it would be a topic of interest. It was about texting. I got more replies than I could've dreamed of, by venting in this discussion about the discussion that didn't get any replies. I tell you, life is funny.

It sucks when you don't have responses. The trick is to respond to a lot of discussions as much as you can and build a trusted friend list because its your friends that will likely respond to you depending upon how you respond to them. So the more you respond to other discussion the more your discussions will get responses..

This is true. I have a great friend base, I don't know where they were with this discussion. But, nonetheless, I'm still here writing away. Thanks for the encouragement though.

It is possible that you did't get any responses, as I have seen other discussions on the same topic. Repeat discussions have a tendency to be put on the back burner and not get responded to. I won't respond to repeat ones, unless it is to help a newbie that might have questions. Other than that, I don't respond to those as they have been asked and answered many times. It is hard to know sometimes though, wich discussions will be interesting enough to respond to. I only respond to those that interst me, otherwise I don't. Good luck to you and happy myloting.

Thank you for replying. I'm pretty sure this was purely an original thought. If I'm wrong let me know. And everyday since I've written the discussion I've looked and no responses. Maybe I was just too excited. But I truly think that it could've been my heading. So, I'm going to take another mylotter's advice who replied prior to you and try another headline.

Well, I always have my friends to back me up. I only have one discussion without any response because I made that discussion when I was new & it was too technical for normal people to answer. Other than that I always used to get responses for my discussion. Thanks to all my friends. Also I try to make interesting topics so that common people can answer those discussions Happy Lotting

Thank you. You know I thought that's what I was doing. I figured texting was a subject many people could relate to. I think it had to be the headline. I'm going to try to redirect that somehow. Well, thanks for the encouragement. Life is funny, I got more replies than I expected on this topic venting about the discussion that didn't get any replies, and yet no one still asked about the discussion. Too funny.

I have an existing and newly opened discussion. I do expect a lot of people to atleast take a peak on it. It looks long, lol, but it just long due to redundancies and elaborations. If I were allowed to campaign it, lol, here it is: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2125986.aspx

Thanks for the reply. Since you put your discussion link, I take it you want me to read it, and in return are going to go to my discusssion that has no replies. Right?

Maybe I'm just lucky, I just started at mylot this tuesday (September 8, 09), and I started a new discussion just last night. Today I got 15 responses already. Maybe its because I tend to comment to everyone who responded in my topic. Try to encourage people in giving their opinions maybe that will help.

Welcome to the family. Good luck with all of your posts. Well, like I said, I've with Mylot for almost 3 years and it just threw me for a loop because it was the first discussion I recall never getting any responses.

I have gotten zero responses a lot and its realy discouraging when you get them you dont want to make any more discussions. Whats worse is when someone makes the same discussion later that day and they get all the replys and you get none. Now thats a lot worse lol at least to me it is.

I see how you feel. I'm baffled that this discussion got so many replies so fast, and yet the discussion I'm referring to still has zero. I truly thought it was a topic that would make people think. I just don't get it.

I couldn't tell you what makes a topic popular. I have a couple of topics that I thought would be pretty controversial and only got 1 or 2 responses. I have some that have no responses. The last one I created has over 20 responses and I didn't think it'd be that popular. Go figure. I wish I knew the secret formula. xoxo Cyne

The discussions that usually get responded on out ones that are more popular and ones you might see more than once. Discussions that get responded on are the ones in the more common interests and the interests you see over and over again. Not all of my discussions have been responded to and those ones i started probably 3 to 4 months ago. Not sure why no one ever responded to them, but it does not bother me as i keep going and responding to discussions and even starting new ones when i can.

Well, I guess I shouldn't be concerned, but it just threw me for a loop. Do you think I can repost it with a different title? Will Mylot allow that? It was a really good brainstorm and I forsaw many mylot replies when the thought came to mind. I guess I'm just disappointed. Thanks for your feedback, it's encouraging.

Oh trust me, it's very unique. I gurarantee no has thought of this. Take a gander at my discussions and find the one from two weeks ago with no responses. You don't have to respond on it, but come back to this discussion and tell me if you thought it was unique or not.
