How old is too old to play video games?

People from all over the world love playing video games but when do you consider yourselves mature enough to leave the gaming world? If your young or in your teens it is understandable that you love playing video games. When your in your 30's or higher some people would tend to say stuff like "Your too old to be playing video games.", "At this age you should set your priorities rather than playing video games" and "Get a life, go out and have some fun in the real world." Well for my opinion, anybody no matter what the age, just as long as your enjoying and you still know the difference between the real and the virtual world, can play video games. What is your stand on this issue?

I do not think that you are ever too old to play video games as long as you like them and are having fun. They have actually done studies that show that video gaming helps improve hand-eye coordination and helps to keep your mind sharp, as long as that is not the only thing that you do all day every day. If you keep your gaming to an appropriate amount of time, then I think that it is definitely a good thing to do. If a child is allowed to play video games, then I definitely think that parents should play those video games with their children. It not only helps the parents learn and understand what things the children like but also it is a family bonding opportunity. I think that parents should interact with their children in other ways, too, but video games are one aspect of that interaction. As the video game generation becomes older, I bet that you will find grandparents playing video games with their grandchildren. In fact, some of them probably already do this. Therefore, I do not think that you are ever too old to play video games.

I think that an appropriate amount of time is enough for you to relax, have some fun and enjoy playing the game but not so much that you ignore other things in your life and do not do the things that are supposed to do and avoid taking care of your responsibilities because you are addicted to the video games. You need to have a decent balance in your life, otherwise you might miss out on the good things in your life out in the real world while you are consumed by virtual reality.

I agree with all that you said but what is an appropriate amount of time for you? I think appropriate time is subjective, it differs to different people. My appropriate time would be twelve hours or more

I would say, the older you are the better you will play. I play video games all the time. Well, recently my PC crashes whenever I start a game. I do not know what the problem is but am trying to find it out. However, I will never stop playing video games. I have loved them since I started and will be some 10 years back and I am continuing. I can spend whole days playing games. The multiplayer which you can play with your friends are great, but single player games also rock.

I did that until recently. The only difference was that I would sit in front of my own computer and play online with my friends. During the June-July of last year I used to play Counter Strike online for 7-8 hours a day. We are all on the same boat.

I'm more serious now in my life but like you I will never leave the gaming scene. Everyone of us needs time to relax ourselves and have fun. There was this time in my life that I would wake up in the morning brush my teeth, eat breakfast then go to meet my friend in a computer shop just to play the whole day. That hobby lasted about three months almost without missing a single day

I really don't think there is an age where people should stop playing games. Obviously there comes a point where people should stop playing games all day and actually work for a living and play games more casually than before. I think gaming only really becomes a problem when someone is obsessed with gaming and really makes it their whole lives.

Obsession is really bad not for gaming alone but in all other aspects as well

I agree with the majority on this issue. Videogames are a source of entertainment, and no one is too old for that. Videogaming replaced all forms of TV entertainment (TV shows, movies, etc.) for me starting with the Nintendo 64. To say I'm too old or I will get too old to play videogames is like asking my grandparents, "Aren't you too old to be watching TV still?" They prefer TV and my husband and I prefer videogames. We play videogames a few hours a day together and yet still have time to cook all of our meals, my husband works full time and I own and run a real estate business, exercise, do other hobbies (write, art, read, etc.), my husband goes to an online school, housework, etc. There are people who are addicted to videogaming...then again, you can't say there aren't people who are addicted to TV. To say addiction or the maturity/lack of maturity applies to one form of entertainment and not the other is absurd. Great discussion!

I agree with your opinion. You can never be too old to play video games as long as it doesn't become an obsession. I think that anyone who tells another that "you're too old to play games" or anything like that is someone who doesn't care for games at all, and is probably an opinion that should be ignored. Everyone has a hobby, and some people's hobbies just so happens to be playing video games. I mean, why stop doing something you love and find fun because someone thinks it's juvenile? Besides, I think that playing video games when you're older would be a nice way to deal with stress. And depending on what games you're playing, it could be a nice way to keep your mind sharp.

The idea behind playing games is for fun and relaxation. The older generations want to have fun too. No one is too old to play video games. I play a lot in my laptop. have fun!

I think people got the idea that video games are just for children because for the past years gaming industries target markets are children.

I used to think that video games are just for kids but then when the PSP, PS3, Nintendo came out then older people started to get into it, too. I think age doesnt matter anymore as long as youre not neglecting your responsibilities.

I think that everyone can play video games, as long as they enjoy it. Also, it's all good and fun as long as you do your responsibilities. No one has the right to tell us that what we're doing is wrong if it doesn't hurt anyone or break the divine rules. You should enjoy life to the fullest, and it's your choice on what you want to do.

Is there really an age limit to playing? Its like saying that you should bury the child in you.Haha for me its more like play appropriately to age.Lets say a married, working full grown man is not good to be seen playing video games all day.

Being a responsible individual you should definitely lessen time allotted to playing video games

in my opinion i never think its too old for someone to do what they enjoy. I plan on playing video games until my joints freeze up due to authritis. If it something that lets you just relax and enjoy yourself i dont thinks there is a minimum or maximum age. I've been playing since my hands were big enough for the controller. Playing video games with my friends has always been an enjoyable hobby for me. Now if it was something like collecting action figures then i'd put an age cap on that

the age to stop playing video games is when you can no longer understand what is going on in the game.

I don't think there is an age limit to play video games. I play it and my parents also enjoy playing it. I had a thought previously that video games and cartoon moviese are only for kids. But, when I got introduced to the world of them I started liking it and used to play evern now and then. Playing video games appears to be a stress breaker for me.

I think that 25 is too old for video games. I think that by the time you reach your thirties you should have a job and a family to care for. By then video games should be something your kids play with not you. Besides it's much better getting out there and living your life and taking care of your family. right?
• Philippines
10 Sep 09
That's good point. But for me you can still play, that of course if you still have the time, it could develop a bond within the family specially when your kids love playing video games. I think the only difference when playing video games as a responsible parent/husband/wife and playing video games as a young and single individual is the time devoted to playing.

There definitely is no age limit. There are so many different types of games available. You can learn a new language, improve your skills, learn to cook, role playing, driving, sports etc. There really is a game for everyone. My husband and I play with our Wii and our DS's, along with our 9 year old daughter. I would stil play video games at the age of 90.

i totally agree with hexeduser22. The last time i saw a 50 years old man who friend's dad of mine was playing a computer game and i was a bit surprised. I thought that only young people or teen would like to play game but since gaming in present day has developed so much, graphic got better and better make every one want to jump to buy new release game. Do you guys know the latest strategy game? I like strategy game very much, especially Empire total war came out. Any one has tried it yet? What your experience with this game?
