Why do people want to destroy something so wonderful?

This is something that I just don't understand. Why will people not do their part to recycle? Why do they simply throw away their trash and not care that it ends up in a big hole in the ground? Why do they throw their trash out of their car windows as they drive down the road? I try my best to clean up after them. I recycle my cans. I recycle my cardboard. I recycle my plastic bags and bottles. When I go to the store, I take my own reusable bags instead of using their plastic ones. But I feel that I should be doing more. What are some suggestions? I would really appreciate any insight on why people are the way they are, and how to do more on my own. This world we live in is way too precious and fragile. I am afraid that if we don't step up and try to save it, then our children will have nothing left.

I have vowed to do when I earn my own income as my friend is doing... she has some how calculated how much garbage in form of plastic bag one household throws in a month and it seems its enough to fill a football field. Now she out of her own earnings has bought in lumpsum cloth bags in three sizes and when in the afternoon she is free she goes around her neighbour hood and knocks on door and donates these bags to the neighbours requesting them to use these when they go to the market next time and say no to the plastic bags. may e you can start that too.

That is a really good idea. Thank you. How could people say no to free reusable bags?
