I was wondering what bank or banks all of you use. I used to be with Chase because they were located on my college campus. Then I switched to Citibank, but they hit me with monthly fees because I never hit the minimum balance. The minimum balance was less than all of the money I have and I was upset they never told me this. I am now with TD bank and I have no complaints yet.
What do you use? Are you happy with them?

Truth be told, most banks that I've come across hit you with unnecessary fees. I was charged $30 once because I wasn't using my Wells Fargo account. So I switched to America First Credit Union. I know they might not be available where you are at but I would search out Credit Unions in General. After having been with Bank One, Wells Fargo, Chase (they purchased bank one) I've come to the conclusion that I simply love working with credit unions because they work well with me. Due to a miss calculation on my behalf I accidentally over drafted 3 times. With a $20 per overdraft policy that mistake cost me $60. I went in and explained what happened and they waived and credited $40 back to my account. So yeah, Credit Unions all the way!

I was with Chase in college, but switched to Citibank because the interest rates I was getting a chase were terrible. It was basically a student account. I do not have much money to my name and I would have never signed up for the account I got with Citibank. I flat out said I have X amount of money and want an account with no fees associated with it. They lied to me, and frankly, I do not want to do business with people who are dishonest. I am now with TD where the minimums are very low and withing my range.

Wells Fargo's fees are ridiculous. My husband opened a checking account and a savings account with them several months ago. He was told that both would be completely fee-free if he signed up for direct deposit into his checking account and scheduled a monthly transfer into the savings account. He did that, but they're still charging us fees for having the checking account open because the amount of the direct deposit has to be larger or the amount oNf the automatic transfer to the savings account has to be larger. Would've been nice of them to tell us that to begin with!
They also charge us $1 every time we get a statement from their ATM. I've never done business with a bank that had to bleed its customers with lame fees like that. Their response when my husband went in to talk to them about it was "Well, other banks charge $2 for you to check your balance, so you really got off easy." Yeah, they do charge higher fees, but only if you're not their customer. I'd seriously love to close the stupid accounts and be done with Wells Fargo, but hubby likes the fact that we get free checks from them. I suppose we'll see down the road if the things are really free or not...
