The number of responses you recieve for a discussion depends on lots of factors. It is not only depending on how interesting the topic is. The topic which is intersting you may not be intersting to others. The other factors are: 1. The time yuo start the discussion. 2. The number of mylotters onine at the time of starting of the discussion. 3. The number of your mylot friends online at the time of the starting of the discussion. 4. The interst in which you started the discussion.

It's interesting that you mention the time at which one posts a discussion as being one of the key factors in how much interest it generates; that never occurred to me. I just assumed that whenever people logged into myLot, they'd be searching the interests for something new to comment about. xoxo Cyne

I understand where you're coming from! And I wish I could answer your question - but it's definitely a tough one. I personally think it's all a coincidence. Once a discussion gets 10 or so responses, from there, it can just flower into 50 or so responses (because discussions with 10+ responses will usually be put on the "today's top" and "hot" category lists..Which helps, exposure-wise). Another thing is that I think people like to answer questions that are..easy to answer and don't require all that much though (unfortunately enough). I see plenty of people writing VERY intense and thoughtful discussions with little or no responses. We all like to take short-cuts, and it makes sense that someone would rather respond to "What is your favorite color?" than a more in-depth and thoughtful question.

Dear maezee, I do agree with your point of views. It really make sense. I notice there are some trends there. However, I also noticed that some myLotters who like to follow those interesting topic, I read those responses, they are very informative and good, at times it flows into many discussion threads even though the number of responses maybe around 12 but long discussion thread I like your response here, very well written and have very good details, keep it up!

I really don't know other than to say that sometimes discussions just get lost in the shuffle here. If they are not on the top page they may not get seen right away. It's really hard to say. As for the ones that you find not very interesting. If they have 50 or more responses then they must have caught someones eyes. All you can do is keep trying.

I would like to add something else to the responses above. Regardless of what time you post or who is online, many users just come here for fun and are not interested in discussing more serious topics. It's a bit like what we choose to watch on television. Big Brother and similar reality shows may not be serious but they get a huge audience while some of the more interesting programmes are snobbed and even get taken off because of their lack of popularity. It's a question of choice and we each choose to do what we find suits us best

Yes, you are right there dian; and really it's too bad. I try to stay away from that "reality" stuff and it irks me when something I'm really into gets pulled from the air but Jerry Springer's nonsense remains. xoxo Cyne

Dear jen, Those simple discussion topic draw more responses especially new comers. It is easier to answer and fast to response. Thus it went into daily digest, or 'top' or 'hot' discussion topic and subsequently attracting more responses again...and this continue until 70-90 responses. However, I do notice some good discussion do attract responses, even though not many..perhaps around 10-12 responses but majority are from experience myLotters which the responses is longer contents and lead to a wonderful flow of discussion thread. Cheers :)

Yes, try to make your topic SIMPLE, do not post topics related to politics, world economy, culture etc. A simple daliy topic is easy to answer and discuss. Once your post gets over 10 responses, it will very likely be listed as the"today's top" and get more and more responses. And also that the time you start your discussion is sometimes decisive.

Well i don't know what kind of discussions other people would like to respond . According to my experience i like to read those discussions which are easy to understand , simple but meaning. When i see the topic titles if there are things i can talk with this topic i will make a response . If the discussion you think it to be interesting doesn't attract many responses sometimes it might be the reason that other people just miss your discussion .

Yes I suppose people can just miss your topic if it doesn't make the digest or today's hot topic or something. One of the ways I discover new topics for myself is when I'm reading other peoples' comments, if I see someone whose writing style I like, I'll go cheque out their profile to see what other discussions they've responded to or started themselves. xoxo Cyne

Another thing to is I frequently look at the discussions that have zero responses. For the people who are looking to make more on myLot, I heard that you get more if you are the first responder. I don't know if that's true or not; maybe someone can look into that and comment on it. xoxo Cyne

I agree, sometimes I come across some discussions are very stupid but they always receive a tons of responses... I mean not stupid stupid but it is not that worth to discuss about, I don't want to point out which but I guess lots of us notice that.

The main reason why people tend to respond to more un-interesting topics because they are here to have fun and not seriously taking with each other. they got enough REAL problems already off-line and they don't want to go through it all again here on-line. so, they prefer the fun stuff. i did try to participate on the serious ones but some debates there can be heavy and probably might result insulting you.

Different people have different interest. Some discussions are interesting in your eyes, but the other people think them boring.I like the topic about movie and fashion, besides,if the discussion is too difficult for me to say something, maybe I also give it up..
