Will You Still Respond To A Discussion...

even if there is already a best response?
I am always used with choosing the best response when i feel that my discussion is already old. Sometimes if i already saw the best responder, i exit to the discussion right away because i think that it already solved the query of the person *though i don't do this all the time*.
But does this thing affect you or not at all? I would like to know your views about this topic so that i will know if this helps us or not.

Hello there! Well, I do that sometimes. I respond when I just want to share something even a best response is already selected. But in discussions in form of a simple question, I sometimes add some details to the best response just to contribute. In fact, there are users who wants to respond but they refuse to do it when a best response is already marked on a particular discussion. And usually in question type topics, the discussion starter just leave their topic once it had been resolved after they select the best response. Users try to put a lot of effort in their responses to get the award because it can also help to earn. Some discussions get more responses because the starter haven't selected the best response for a long time. Have a nice day!

Hello boogerman!
So it does attract some respondents when it has not been given? Well i am kind of guilty regarding your statement "there are users who wants to respond but they refuse to do it when a best response is already marked on a particular discussion". I have felt lazy when i saw a best response to that certain discussion as it seems like the query has been solved already so the interest seems to be decreasing.

Fame is right but i am not sure with additional earnings.
Do we have additional earnings when we get that reward?

Whether I leave a comment to a discussion that already has a best response depends on how long they waited to give out the best response.
If it is only a few hours or a day or two I think that's way too soon. It doesn't give those of us that don't get here every few hours or even every single day, so I don't like that and will not respond.
However if I happen to come across a discussion that is older and had a best response, that's fine and I will leave a response.
For me not responding is all about giving away best response to a friend and not caring what others have to say. I tend to remember people and if I see they do that a lot I just ignore their posts, period.

Hello WebMann. I guess that was a typo error having double "n" on your user name.
That was a very interesting statement. As you have a different perspective on the matter. I would also want to give out that award a more later than giving it out with just the same day. Because it looks like the case is solved already and other responses won't be entertained at all or won't be given credit for the matter. Thanks by the way and welcome!

Hi Koala,
I will definitely respond if the topic is interested one or I have something to share. We can share our opinion even if the BR is already selected and we are not working for the br either. It is upto the starter of the post how to select a BR, when to give and to whom to give. Some people are solving the discussion within a week some are giving the BR in the same day itself. For me, I am selecting a BR after giving enough time to members. It is not an easy task if you get large number of responses.
I will give my opinion even if the poster is already selected the best response.

Hello sree.
Just like what you did just now.
Yes a lot had told me that they respond because they want to and not because of the BR. However, one of the members here proved to himself that when we earn a pencil, it also has a corresponding amount or a slight increase with our earnings and the feeling is very rewarding if we get the best response. Thanks for dropping by. I bet i can see you in one of my discussions again.
Take care!

Yes and you are right about that vicky.
But sometimes, we still hope for achieving the best response as one of the members here proved that it could increase your earnings as well as the reputation. So it will kind of boost our confidence and at the same time perseverance to make some more comments.

No I believe even though they have a response to their message you still might be able to add something to it. All in all I would like to give my 2 cents.

LOL 2 cents or two cents referring to an old expression used by many people. It's just an expression used when you like add you input to a discussion, you give your two cents.

Hi koalapenguin, well it's really nice that you have posted this discussion, cause I'm just new here and just a week old in mylot. To be honest I'm still a bit confuse of how the "best response" work. I know I really look stupid for not getting this, hehe. I don't even know how to mark someone as my best responder, I only know how to give a positive rating. And I am totally clueless of the benefits of it. I mean do you could extra credit when someone marks you as the best responder?
And since it's so obvious that I don't really have any idea about it, I tend not to care at all if I stumble in to a discussion where the creator has already chosen the best responder. I just keep on commenting, as long as the discussion gets my interest, of course. hehe

@ MysD: Thank you for clearing that out to angryeve. You have always been a great help for the beginners.
@ angryeve: Hello again and i am happy that you have decided to spend some time here in the lot.
Well the stars beside our user name represents our reputation. It doesn't mean that we have received that number of best responses and positive ratings. It just means that we have posted some good quality responses to other discussions and that many of the users rated us as positive. As the number increases, it means that you have a very good reputation around here. These are the colors of the stars and number corresponding it.
1- light blue
2- gray
3- brown
4- violet
5- green
6- light pink
7- silver
8- yellow
9- red
10- dark blue

Hi mysdianait, wow thanks. That really explained everything and will be very helpful for newbies like me, except for the benefit part.hehe But I agree it must be really rewarding if you get to be awarded to be the best responder a lot of times. By the way, is it the star beside your username? So a yellow star means the number of the best response and a red star would be the number of the positive votes, I assume?? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi koala, thanks for that update. Well I guess I was totally wrong with the star colors, I never get things right lately. lol By the way, the color rankings did help a lot, cause I have been wondering about that ever since I got here on mylot, I just always seem to forget to ask someone about it. Anyway, is one the highest or the lowest? And if I don't have a star beside my username does that mean mylot doesn't consider my posts to have quality? Cause now that you've mentioned about the stars, I suddenly felt I was a loser cause I don't have one. hahahaha

If I had something to say on the discussion, I'd do so regardless of the BR. As you can see, I'm responding to this one even though you've already given a BR

Hello there! Well, that's good, just be free to share your views here because it can also help to earn. But it feels better when receiving a best response because it also helps to earn and that is the reason why some users prefer to post only on unresolved discussions and they are trying their best to get the award.

He's the one who got the award cause he believes that we could earn a bit higher when we are being marked as a best response.
So i believe that he deserves cause he proved it to me and also shared his opinion to all of the members who would come across with this topic. Have a great day!

If I find an interesting discussion I respond - PERIOD:
It makes no difference to me who posted it or whther it has lots of responses already or whether the BR has already been awarded or not.
If the BR has already been awarded I will stop and read it thoroughly and try and understand what made the origianl poster choose it too. That says a lot about the user many times and I love getting to know people better onmy travels here.

I have missed the part of earning while responding even if there's a best response already.

hi there koalapenguin, yes, i would still definitely answer or participate in the discussion even if there's already a best response mark, as chosen by the topic owner. i don't mind at all, and i think i would love to still voice out my opinion on certain matters which i would like to join. what bothers me however is that when there are already many, as in many pages of responses, and sometimes, i do wonder if the topic owner would still be interested to read my post, considering that there are already many responses given ahead of me. but just the same, if i feel that i can contribute and relate to the issue, yes, why not? i would still be very willing to response. =)
have a great day and nice meeting you here in mylot!

Hello Ysabel!
That's a very cute avatar.
Thank you for sharing your view with this topic.
I would also love to share my opinion to the matter though there is also a big possibility that the starter cannot read your response at all since he/she have already chosen a best response. What do you think?
Even i am having second opinions with responding to discussions with a lot of responses that you need to flip pages just to look for your response which really takes a lot of our time from us.

Hi ysabel, and koalapenguin, well, everytime we post something, the person who starts the discussion gets a mail and from there he or she can get a direct access to ur particular comment. Even otherwise, ur comment does reach him or her in the mail. Therefore, ur communication is complete. U need not fear that the person has not seen ur response. Of course, he or she may choose to respond later, depending upon the time he or she has. As far as joining a discussion that already has best response, I dont think I would hesitate. In fact, I have participated in many such discussions. I get to read thru some of the responses given by the others, and if I do have a valid point to make, I do make it. At times, it is just signifying agreement with the person who starts the discussion, or the one who has responded.

Hello vandana. That was a nice point. But eventually, not all members read a lot of responses as they have troubles making comments to the responses. They also said that it consumes most of their time. I know the email and everything about it. I was just talking about the commenting back possibilities.

Hello Koalapenguin,
Reading your discussion here and reminds me that I haven't devote for best response for my discussions quite sometimes already. But As I know, even I have chose the best response for the particular discussion, I still receive response from other member. I would just say the best response ain't the importance for a discussion.
For me, when I response to any discussion, I never take a look on the best responder is selected or not. I just see what discussion that I am interested in, then I just go ahead to response. I don't bother much about the best response.
But if you still have something to say about the discussion, why not you just leave your response even the best response is selected.

Hello again,
Yeah, after reading your discussion, I straight went to drag back my old discussions and read trough all the responses I received. I then pick the most useful to me and devote the best responder.
So you mean we don't get any earning when we receive a best response?

Hi ving.
I am glad that my discussion helped you realize to look back on your previous discussion and choose a best response.
I think there won't be any problem with your suggestion as all of us have been doing that for months.
Besides, having the best response mark doesn't increase our earnings anyway.

I have previously responded to some discussions with already best response selected. If the topic interests me, why not. Anyway mylot is not like Yahoo Answer wherein you can no longer respond to a question if the best answer was already chosen.

Hello, not usually. I go through what discussions have been discussed recently and answer some from there. I have answered a few after a best response had been picked but not too much.I have yet to select a best response to the one question I had asked.I was hoping for more responses but after I do what I was looking for I will chose who gave me the best response.
