I don't like barney and yet I needed to add him on my interest to be able to post this one out.
Well as some of my friends already know, I'm half normal and half retard, since I kept meddling with kids stuff especially when it comes to show. I like watching spongebob sqaurepants, courage the cowardly dog and a lot more. But don't get me wrong, I also watch normal shows for normal people at my age. hehe However, I never really liked barney. I'm a bit confused how a big purple dinosaur became so popular with kids. Although I like singing the theme song over my head, "I love you, you love me, we're a happy family bla bla...", but that's only because it's a very catchy tune (and just to be clear, I don't do the dance part while singing cause that would just really conclude me of being a 100% retard).
I know the show is very educational for kids and I probably would let my daughter to watch it. There's just something about barney that alarms me, it's not that I'm scared of mascots or anything cause I even tried watching the bananas in pajamas show. But it never bothered me watching two bananas talk to each other and wiggles whenever they have a new idea, to think that that is even weirder. lol
Anyway I don't mean to offend Mr. Barney fans out there, just curious on what's so lovable about him.

Hi rg0205, hahaha it's funny that you're parents liked him more. Cause I've been getting comments here from parents, how they really hate barney and yet they still buy the collection of barney sells just because they're kids wanted it. Basically they're just doing it for their kids. But yours was different, it's the other way aroung. hahaha
By the way I love the simpsons, too.. although I'm not that crazy for taz and elmo. hehe But they're both cute, I'm not annoyed at them like how I feel with barney.lol

Hahaha setting barney on fire? Definitely, two thumbs up! You should have read a conversation I had with one of the mylotters here, where we have thought of numerous way to bring barney down, even trying to think how to give him a bad name on the kids and parents who loved him. lol I didn't even realize how I hate barney until I posted this discussion.lol By the way I'm filipino too. I guess that's why we think alike.hehe

We're Filipino so my parents were always all cutesy wootsy with that little Filipina girl named "MIN" who starred on the show and they always went "you should be more like her" - RIGHT. She sings with Barney but I'd rather set him on fire LOL hahahaha. Okay, maybe that's too much but he does annoy me to the core.

I never really liked Barney either... I thought it was rather stupid... a dinosaur in purple, hoping and jumping around love everyone... Then I had my son and other children that I watch on a regular basis... Barney is something that is part of make believe.. Takes real world situations and teaches children the right way of doing things... Yes it does not help that there is major uproar about Barney.. But ok. The kids enjoy it, I would rather have them watching Barney versus some cartoon that teaches violence, or how to hate one person or another because of one reason or another.. I think when we get older we have a tendency to forget about the simply things in life, and add way too much to something...

Well to be honest I do not put anything pass the media... Yes there are cartoons that are geared towards the adult audiences.. but there are some parents that assume that its a cartoon so it was made for children..

Hahaha.. hi there, I'm starting to realize that a lot of adults hate him because of his ridiculous color considering he's a dinosaur. Not to mention that dinosaurs are something.. lol
Anyway, I do agree with you on letting your kids to watch barney ( no matter how annoying it could be), rather than cartoons with not so good morals on it. I remember a kid of a friend of mine, the kid's expression is "stupid dog", he got that from the courage the cowardly dog show. And now every time they have someone visiting by he just call them stupid dog. All of them, no exception..lol

Yah I agree, partly because parents often assume it's a show for kids, since cartoons was originally invented intentionally for kids. Makers of cartoons never really thought that adults would be butting in on the scene. So I guess they just revised the whole concept of cartoons to generate more income on their pockets. =)

I'm not a big Mr. Barney fan either, but they don't broadcast the show here anyway. We do have some English and US children shows that are translated, like for example the Tweenies. I do like the Tweenies but sometimes the translations are just downright horrible! I can't stand the sound of them as they cram the words into sentences that just won't fit that amount of words, or they put in way to little words to fit the tune.
I like to watch childrens tv aswell, it's funny .
I see nothing wrong with watching it alongsides documentaties and such. There are allready so many things in the world going on that require us to be serious, this is a nice break from that.

Hi cyberfluf, well you mentioned that US children shows are being translated, I could relate since they also do it here. I really hate it when they do since I'm used to the English version. And yah, it could be a bit annoying sometimes when the translation is just not right regarding timing is concern. It's like your watching a foreign telenovela or something. But that makes me wonder, isn't English your main language there. I'm just curious.. hehe
And I do agree, with all that is happening right now, we definitely need to take a break from it to loosen up a bit. =)

LOL, nope.. English is not my native language; I am from the Netherlands.
A lot of people do know at least a little English, especially people with higher education and also younger people as it's a class that everyone gets when they go to junior college. Some preschools teach it aswell. Europe is known for teaching a lot of languages in high school; I got my own language aswell as English, French and German (spanish was optional). I am not sure what classes are tought in other countries, so perhaps I'm way off here, but that's what I heard .

Hi ya angryeve
I think it is going to be very hard to find someone that has got something good to say about Brney to be honest. I am wracking my brains but haven't come up with anything as yet. My kids have a compilation DVD and as soon as I hear that Barney theme tune I have to leave the room!! I think it is soooooo twee and the kids look too sweet and clean cut! How come they don't throw a naughty kid in there from time to time or maybe they have and everyone got to learn a lesson from that particular show and made an example of the naughty kid. I dunno, I sure haven't watched enough shows to confirm that!!

Hi humbug25, first of all, that was really just funny, especially the part where you leave the room whenever you hear the barney theme song, which I happen to sing sometimes. lol!!! I love the first and the second line the most, since it makes me feel a bit normal about meddling with children shows. I never really thought there could a lot like me..
And by the way, instead of throwing in a naughty kid, I think it would be even funnier if they throw in an adult who really really hates barney and then tries to wrestle with him. lol I would definitely watch that episode if that happens and see how friendly little barney reacts to that. haha
And sorry if it's taking me a bit longer to reply, having problems lately with my internet connection.. =(

What about the other dinosaur character that carries a blanky around with him? It would be funny if he was attached to like a doll that he had pulled an arm and leg off from, had drawn over it with a felt pen and cut its hair so it only had those bits of hair sticking out. Oh oh oh and what if Barney had a tattoo of something like 'Hooters Rock' hahaha

Hahaha.. Now that was even hilarious. I mean could you imagine if ever Mr. Purple Barney man is actually a real person with a real life. Someone who goes to work and goes home after.. blabla. And the paparazzi is always around him trying to get an awkward moment and trying to get a nasty story out of him. And then would finally caught him stoned while shooting a seen with the kids. hahaha That would definitely end his career, hep hep hurray for as barney haters. lol

Barney regardless og his ridiculous appearance is really educational for kids. And to be honest I'm actually gonna buy my daughter a collection of Barney's show. hehe I guess it doesn't really matter what I like as long as its for the good of my daughter's sake.

Hello angryeve.
I can see that you are an "emo" type of person? Or let me say, a rock star or something like it.
Anyway, you could reject that interest if it doesn't interest you at all. I guess he became famous because of his cuddly appearance. I don't like barney either as he looks like a lame purple dinosaur but we can't help but accept him as he is. He has created a lot of shows and influence a lot of kids.

I think it won't affect your discussion. I have answered a lot of discussion which is out of my interest and i still see my responses to those discussions.
Sorry to tell you that your emo. I thought you are because of your avatar and your user name with "angry" on it.
I agree that we have to leave that purple dinosaur alone as he is the only dinosaur alive *except for his friends on the show*. :D

Hi there koalapenguin, I'm definitely not an emo since that belongs to a different genre.. hehe, but I do love old school metal music, that's all. And I'm not the type of metal lover who would wear black from head to toe, and put a black lipstick and buy a fake vampire fangs or whatever. lol
Anyway about barney, even his appearance don't look cuddly to me. haha To be honest, his appearance looks a little scary to me. But yah, you're right about him having influenced a lot of kids now in a good way. But I'm still on the process of trying to leave him alone with his purple skin. As for the moment, I'll just enjoy teasing him. lol
By the way thanks for the tip about deleting barney on my interest. But if I delete him, wouldn't my discussion under him gets to be deleted too?

I used to watch this show when I was younger, then I stopped watching it. I don't watch it now, it seems different somehow. I think they've done more to the show over the years. We don't have kids yet but when we do I'll probably be watching it along with them. BTW : Your not a retard for watching cartoons. It's just something you do. You have a daughter, and even though that's partially not the reason why... It doesn't mean your retarded.

Hi somecowgirl, I missed you. Where have been for the last couple of days? Well, I myself did skip a day or two here in mylot, hehe. I'm a little busy with something else.
Anyway, yah I guess you're right about me not being a retard since I've learned and quite surprise to know that a lot of adults really do watch cartoons often. It's funny but everybody needs to relax sometimes and I think that's what I get every time I do.
By the way, like you I also plan to watch barney with my daughter cause no matter how much I hate barney(lol), well I still want my daughter to learn some educational stuff rather than just fun or entertainment you'll get with other shows.

Hello angryeve,
Barney & friends is made for kids like your daughter , not for you..Then its quiet natural that kids love them & adults like you & me dont like them. Its just made for them. Its not the case with Tom & Jerry. Most of the people like to see Tom & Jerry irrespective of their age.
Its nothing to do with half normal , half retard...half angry , half cool ....half full , half empty...Even I watch the kids show with my son.I love most of the shows except Barney

Hi krupesh, I know. But I still like to meddle around children shows. haha And I like the idea that you do tend to love the shows your kids watch except barney. lol
I mean I find a lot of grown ups still enjoy watching cartoons. But so far I don't know of anyone who likes barney. I know it's intended for kids, but almost all cartoons are and yet, here we are watching it too.. =)

hi cainam, I was starting to think about the same think that maybe its barney's color or something that is a bit diturbing for us adult, haha. And yah I agree spongebob show is definitely way better than barney. Plus we happen to have the same taste, cause I totally love patrick.. he's my favorite character among them. But of course I do love the whole gang..

Hi, incredibledna, your username implies you're somebody I can't mess with if I don't wanna die.lol It's funny to know that a lot of people doesn't really like barney at all, but somehow forced to buy collections of the show just for the sake of their kids. And the "go watch your own series" line, was really funny.
It makes me realize how stubborn I could be most of the time.lol

Hi xchyler, good morning to you, too. I know, barney really is very popular among kids, I can't really argue with that. hehe I haven't really watch barney like sit down and finish the episode so I wouldn't really know how he's branded to be adorable and huggable. haha But I'll be finding out very soon when my daughter starts watching tv. =)

Hi alatecablebill, I kinda like that term "love-hate relationship", cause it's like you hate him but you're slowly turning to be a fan of him... lol (just kidding)
Anyway, I find it really funny that you know all his songs, the "I love you, you love me" is the only thing I know. But I can't blame you for it, cause if you keep on hearing it you'll definitely get to memorize it.hehe
