So for the past few days my bottom left wisdom teeth has been causing a lot of grief. It's broken through the surface now, but it seems to be doing a lot of shifting. I remember my dentist telling me that it would definitely have to come out since it would push the molar in front of it out of alignment, but I guess I just figured I would have YEARS to worry about it.
My throat is swollen, and my ear is sore and painful to the touch.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do though. I don't have dental coverage through work yet, and it hurts so bad.
I've popped some acetaminophen, and gargled with salt water, any other suggestions on how to keep the pain down?

Do you have a university or a dental college near you? They are very inexpensive compared to dentists and they do excellent work.
If you don't get it taken care of you can get an infection that will spread throughout your body and affect your other teeth, too. Call around and see if there is a dental college close to you.
Ginger capsules are good at reducing swelling and won't hurt you like aspirin or ibuprophen.

Nope, I live in quite a small town. So small in fact, that I have to go to a dentist for a referral to a dental surgeon who is 5 hours away.

I know that is painful. I have had all 4 of my wisdom teeth hurt and had to have them took out.Mine started coming in when I was 19. I didn't have any dental insurance I had to pay full price to have them pulled. Well my bottom two I had to have them both cut out.

Yup...I do. Get some clove oil. You can get it at the pharmacy for about 3.oo. The reason they keep it behind the pharmacy is because it works so well. IT kills the nerves in the tooth. They warn against using it orally because they are afraid that when people are out of pain that they won't seek the treatment they need. It doesn't get rid of the problem but it will get you out of the pain until you can take care of the problem. It tastes horrible but it works like magic.

I know exactly what you are going through. My top Right wisdom tooth is causing me the same pain. Like you, I do not have dental coverage. I have been using ibuprofen and using orajel constantly. Your best bet would be to go to the doctor, especially if you are having sore throat, sore ear, etc. My pain has subsided for about a week now, but if it does come back I am going to go to the ER, to get some antibiotics.
Good luck to you, Dear. I hope you get some relief soon!

I think you pretty much have to deal with the pain, but it would go away after sometime. No choice, that's what happens when the wisdom tooth gets extracted. I can understand how you are going through with the pain. I think you already realize to eat porridge and drink warm drinks instead of cold ones. I think that might aggravate the pain.

Ouch! Wisdom teeth can be very painful when they come in. Acetaminophen may help with pain, but it's not the best choice. It's not anti-inflamatoty, so it won't help with the swelling. Ibuprophen is a better choice, and if you can take it, you can take up to four 200 mg pills (prescription strength of the same product is 800 mg).
You might check with United Way, to see if there are dentists or dental clinics in your area. Most of them are funded all, or in part, through Unitel Way. If you are lucky enough to live within a reasonable distance from a college with a dental school, that is another avenue for free or low-cost care. Good luck!

It sounds as if the tooth and your mouth in general has become infected... and only antibiotics will fix that. Even if you dont have dental coverage at work yet, do what you need to do to get the impacted teeth removed. It only takes ONE of them to screw up EVERY tooth in your mouth. As for being infected... visit a local clinic or your family doctor and tell them that you think your mouth is infected or that your tooth ear/nose/throat is/are infected. They will be able to give you antibiotics - No sane dentist will work on your teeth while they are infected.
As for alleviating the pain... try ibuprofen... it alleviates inflamation. Also try warm compresses along your neck line from your ear under your jaw to the chin, and up on your jaw itself. It also might not hurt to have a warm compress around the sinus area. If that doesn't work, try a warm one. These are only momentary solutions... the only real cure all is going to be getting any of the damaged teeth repaired and or removed.
Hope you feel better soon and good luck

Ouch, that brings back terrible memories. I'm so sorry you're in pain when I had them removed my doctor gave me coedine.
Maybe you could ask your doctor for a prescription for coedine. It's just a thought, just be careful on them because they mess with your mind.
