I am not a huge fan of American Idol, and so I could be very wrong about this, but I thought Paula was on there because of her previous musical talent. Because of her musical background, that made her more qualified to be a judge on this show. I like Ellen and all, but I wonder besides dancing on her talk show, what previous music talent she has? I think it will be an interesting change to the show, that maybe has been needed. I haven't really watched the show since the first and second season, and it sounds like Paula was on her way out. I just wonder if there could have been a better choice of judge that has a musical/singing background, who could better judge and guide the aspiring singers on the show.

If you do a search on Paula Abdul, and find a bio on her, I think that you will find that she actually did have quite a musical background in both dance and singing. Are those not some of the attributes that they are looking for in the next American Idol? Paula Abdul sold over 30 million albums, had two number one albums, six number one singles, and a grammy, emmy's, MTV awards and more. You may not have liked "Rush Rush" inparticular, but she actually was very skilled with her dancing, choreography and singing. I think that these things are the exact reason that she was chosen to judge on Idol in the first place. Simon is there because of his musical background as a record producer, and Randy Jackson was there for his musical background. I just don't understand how having a comedian/talk show host for a judge will be in any way beneficial to these singers. Like I said, I have no problem with Ellen, I think she is very funny, just not qualified to judge a contest such as this.

Paula Abdul may have had a couple of albums, but that doesn't mean she was musically talented or qualified to judge other people's talents. Of course she's going to like everyone on the show, they all sing a million times better than her.
Go to playlist.com and look up the song Rush, Rush... NOT GOOD AT ALL IN ANY WAY!

Dear sredith,
I am also looking forward to see Ellen Degeneres. Isn't it wonderful
to be able to watch both my favourite reality show and my favourite
celebrity as one of the judge everyweek..
The first time I saw Ellen was in Walt Disney Orlando - EPCOT - she was
the host for the exciting ride... about energy!
Emmy-winning talk show host Ellen DeGeneres was the chosen emcee
at the 79th Academy Awards at the Kodak Theater.. I truly enjoy her
sense of humour, that was fantastic. She is someone who can keep the
show alive and fresh and moving, as well as someone who is a flat-out
great entertainer. Let see how Simon Cowell deal with her???
Cheers and do keep in touch!

I think Ellen is the most talented, interesting and entertaining person on TV although bizarrely I NEVER watch her show - but then I'm not into chat shows at all. I don't watch Idol either but may reconsider now she's on the panel. I just love her spontaneity, creativity, irreverence..she's such fun. If she was involved more in the kind of stuff I like watching, I'd definitely be a bigger fan.

She really is fun, isn't she?
I haven't watched Idol with too much interest the past few seasons but my interest in the show is sparked again now that she'll be on the panel. And I really can't wait to see her interactions with Simon and Randy!! It's going to be a hoot!

I totally agree - Ellen will be a great addition to the show! Yesterday my mother and sister commented that she may not bring much to the show since she's a comedienne and doesn't come from the world of singing entertainment. But I love her sense of humor, her approach to life and her sharp style. Can't wait to see what Ellen brings to the table this year on Idol!
