Employer Cyberstalking!?

This morning I applied for a job as a waitress up at this golf course near my house. Shortly after the women had replied to my original inquiry, I noticed a message in my inbox saying that she was following me on Twitter.
I find it repulsive that employers now resort to making their judgments by cyberstalking prospective employees! Whatever happened to good old fashioned background checks, drug screening, and interviews?
Apparently this goes on a lot because my friends have all told me that they've seen reports about this on the news.
Personally I refuse to censor myself on social networking sites by making them private because I feel that if I have something to hide I shouldn't be using social networking sites at all... but I would least appreciate being informed that an employer is going to do this.
What do you think?

I dont think its right for then to do that. For me those type of sites are what I use to express my feelings about work, and other stuff if its bothering me so I wouldnt want my boss to be able to see what I was writing and its really none of their business, thats your personal life outside of work.

The thing that bothers me the most is that the things that I post are jokes between my friends and I, quips about music or movies that I love, things like that. A lot of these things would allow an employer to assume that I am immature or not serious about work, which is completely inaccurate. If they're going to do this they should at least wait until after the interview!
