By accident you witness a murder crime and you know who dunnit. Voila, you become the star witness.
Do you brave enough to sit on the witness chair, take the oath to tell nothing but the truth, and confirm that the murderer is the person who sit on defendant chair. This culprit probably dangerous, and basically you might put yourself and/or your family in dangerous situation.
Are you ready too if they decide to "hide" in Witness protection program, and start a whole new life somewhere else.
Or you just going to back up and pretend like nothing happen, let the criminal walk free?
I say if my testimony could put him forever without chance of getting out I might probably do it.
How about you?

It seriously depends on the crime that was committed. If like you said it was bad enough crime that he will be put away for life then most likely I would. Especially if it was to a family member or friend. I would not have any qualms about doing this. I would feel guilty if he raped someone and I didn't come forward and he committed another crime of the same nature or even worse, such as murder. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

If I am brave enough to sit on the witness chair, I may be brave enough to tell the truth of the whole story. Then I can try the witness protection program. Since I already know by putting myself as a witness can cause jeopardy not only to me but also my family, I will take all possible measure to ensure they will not be in harm. I could pretend like nothing happen and let the criminal walk free but what if my family or friend were in the next line and murder by the criminal that I let go because I was scare.

YES!I would, cause if not i will never have a deep sleep in my entire life bearing the conscience for what i witnessed. Yes it brings danger to me and to my family but i would find all means to make us safe rather than hiding at my own shadow.
