I'm currently reading Stephanie Myers' Twilight, and while I can't say I'm not enjoying the story line, or that I'm finding it hard to read, I do have to say it reads a lot like a Mills and Boon by Ann Rice.
Anyone else get this feeling?

It's a book which is a perfect example of how NOT to write a lasting classic piece of literature. I think in a way it's worse than a Mills & Boon book because people claim that she's such a good author and writes so well...when anyone who has read any classic piece of literature can tell you quite assuredly that she's a terrible writing.

Well I'd agree it's not exactly lasting literature, but it's not all that badly written or I wouldn't have bothered finishing it. It's the theme and the style that got me annoyed. I'd also agree she doesn't deserve the kudos, but then that criticism could apply to a lot of musicians and actors in this day and age.

i have read the twilight series. i don't like it. i read it because i was curious with all the publicity and how everybody was talking about it. she does not write very well. there are a lot of writers/authors who are waaaay better than her out there who don't get this kind of popularity. stephenie meyer is one lucky gal.

I was very disappointed with the movie but am reading the book now. So far the book has been more impressive then the movie, but I am not overly impressed yet. Maybe it will get better.

It is supposed to be teenage fiction, at least according to our library, which puts it in the same category as Isobelle Carmody's Obernewton and Legendsong books. It has struck me all along that Carmody is more mainstream SciFi rather than teenage fiction, but perhaps I am finding Twilight so much less entrancing because it truly IS teenage fiction, aimed at romantic teenage girls.

I really enjoyed watching the Twilight movie, and I liked reading the books even more. I really liked the story line from the movie, and so was really interested to read and get through all of the books to find out the outcome. It is probably one of the best series I have ever read, in my personal opinion. I have not read any of the books mentioned by Ann Rice, but maybe I will check those out. It would be interesting to see how they compare. Happy reading!
