what are some reading tips to help improve a 1st graders reading skill? any suggestion? thanks.

If your first grader knows already how to read, you can help him read faster by reading the book yourself and pronounce the words as you point to them in the book. Go slowly. The left to right movement must not be hurried. The English language is difficult to learn. Example: Creature and Creation have different pronunciations in the e and a. This is difficult to the child. So, read with him.

Hi silverarrowgriffin, your reading development must be exceptional. Harry Potter may be recommended for 4th graders as Enyd Blyton is for 2nd or 3rd graders. But I am glad that you had a good start. I know some college students and even young professionals who find it challenging to begin with Chamber of Secrets, LOL. Sometimes I am tempted to tell them "Hey, it's just a JK Rowling book, not the Bible." Keep reading! It maketh a man.
