On September 11, 1999 I got married to my boyfriend after having lived together for 10 years. I woke up on September 11, 2001 ready to celebrate our 2nd anniversary....but by about 10 am that morning I had forgotten it even was our anniversary.....
We never did remember that until a couple days later....
I dont think we really celebrated our anniversary much at all for a couple of years....but even now it is hard to be particularly jovial on this day when the whole country and even the whole world is remembering and comemorating the world trade center attacks....
Its funny the things fate throws at you sometimes huh?? We had planned on getting married about 5 years before that on July 5th but for some reason just never followed through with it and then when we did get married that year it was kind of a spur of the moment thing...lol
Well I was in college at that time...i had finished my first year and was just out on break before starting year two....one day in june we go to the mall and he takes me to kay jewelers and i say what are we doing in here and he is like we are getting married....i was like ummm ok then....lol....so i decided we needed to have the ceremony before school started back up because i would be too busy then....so we just kind of landed on 9/11.....
I have always kind of wondered since then after being together since 1990 and talking about getting married several times but never actually doing it..how on earth did we manage to get married on the one date the whole world now sees as the day of terror....

I had nearly the same sort of thing. On my 21st birthday, we had the 7/7 bombings in London. I didn't get text messages saying happy birthday, I got text messages telling to check the news as bombs had gone off in London. Now, every year on my birthday, the papers are full of articles about the bombings and I don't really want to celebrate my birthday.

Oh that would be even worse to have it be your birthday!!
Even if you want to celebrate it is kind of hard when EVERYONE is in such a somber mood but I usually dont feel like celebrating and would probably feel a bit guilty if I did after such a horrible thing happened on that day...

This is certainly one of the more macabre coincidences I've read about in a while pixel!
As unfortunate as it is that your anniversary is linked to such a sad and well known occasion, it doesn't change the fact that it's still YOUR day! If anything, isn't it wonderful to think that in amongst all that terror, heartache and sadness, there's positivity too and that's the beginning of your life together as Husband and Wife? Congratulations to you both and Happy Anniversary!

Awe...way to spin it James!!!!!
Yeah we do try to celebrate it as much as possible anyway...
I am just one of those poeple who believes that EVERYTHING happens for a reason and there are no coincidences.....so I am always trying to figure out what the meaning behind the coincidence is....lol...some things are probably better left undiscovered though!!
