Many private schools require students to wear a uniform. Now there are many public schools that are considering a uniform be required for attendance. What do you think of public schools and the uniform issue?

i think it is good to have a uniform dress code in the school.it brings a sense of equality among the students.all the students whether from a high society or a lower society don't feel this difference among themselves. this also maintains a separate identity for the students of that particular school. a sense of discipline also develops among the students.

I agree. I wore a uniform all through highschool and I am happy about it. I didn't have much money for brand name clothes at the time and I was very self conscious about it, but because of the uniform, I didn't have to worry.

Im not sure where you live, but here in the UK even uniforms in public schools are compulsary until college and university. Uniforms do bring a sense of... unity to the school, but i think they can go a bit overboard. (The last uniform i wore included ties, and suit jackets) Schools should find a good balance that does the whole unity part but also lets kids get their personalities across - so many schools seem to stunt that. I don't like the idea. A lot of students use apparel as a way to express themselves. Young people have so few outlets for expressing themselves I'd hate to endorse taking that one away.

I never used to wear a uniform during my school years but I'm thinking that it would have been a good idea. There's no need to worry about fashion and things like that as everyone is dressed the same and I think that you feel like part of a team as well. It's just a shame that uniforms are so expensive and there should be some help for those that cannot afford to wear a uniform. Andrew

I am completely against wearing uniforms to public school. This removes expression that allows people to have more fun at school. There are so many people in the public school who would never show up if it weren't for their friends and the social aspect of school. These people would lose their ability to even have the social connections to other people around them. This isn't a good idea because the school system doesn't want any more dropouts or people trying any less than they already are.

The whole idea of uniforms in school disturbs me. Children should be able to express themselves and be individuals. Choice of clothing is often a way of doing this. If forced to wear uniforms they would never get the opportunity to show their true personalities. How would we all feel if we had to go through our day to day business dressed like everyone else? I'll stick with my freedom of choice.

In my country, school uniforms are compulsory regardless of private or public school. We'll wear them until we enter college or university. I think it's a good thing to have such rule here. That way I don't have to worry or being criticize of the way I am dressing. It also develop unity as everyone is the same in dressing criteria.
