This year I reconnected through an alumni networking site with a girl I first knew when I was three-years-old. That's over 40 years ago! How long have you known your oldest friend (and by oldest I mean the person you've been friends with the longest in your life - not the oldest person you know who is a friend!)

about 54 years now. This is someone who I met when I stared secondary school at the age of 10. He is now 64 and I'm 63 - he's 6 months older than I am. I don't see him all that often now, but we are still in touch.

Secondary school- now THERE's a term I don't hear too often. You must be a Brit like me. It looks like you have the friendship longevity record there so far- very impressive.

So far i've been with my friend for 10 years already. We still communicate through internet and via text messaging. Sometimes she phoned me but most of the time we chat in the internet. We are physically away but in our hearts we are existing in our lives.

i think that's what true friendship is all about
you can be apart from our friend for years and then when you see them or hear from them, it's just like you saw them yesterday

That must of been awesome to reconnect with a friend from that far back. I'm always interested in what my old classmates are doing nowadays. Being a military brat we moved around often, so I was always making new friends. Unfortunately I can't remember their last names. With facebook and myspace I was hoping to find some of them.
Anyhow the longest friendship I have had is with a friend of mine from high school. We've been friends for 17 years though we don't live nearby we started off writing letters after high school graduation and I went into the Army and then graduated to the computer and social network sites.

I don't know if this counts. I knew one friend since we were in kindergarten - we were just friends going to school together, but became best friends about junior high. We "were" the best of friends until our mid 20's, when I had to end the friendship simply because I had enough of her and her problems (it was really that bad). Fast foward about 15 years, she found me on Facebook through a mutual friend. I debated for a while whether or not to add her, and so I finally did, to at least acknowlege her but keep it at that. Thus far (it's only been a few months), we are friendly on Facebook, but have gone no further beyond our Facebook walls. Does that count as my oldest sort-of friend? :P

My oldest friend has been my pal since I was 6 months old. She was the granddaughter of my mom's best friend. So, for 29 years now we have been friends. Life has taken us in seperate directions, but we do still talk when we get the chance.
