When you drop a mint candy on a soda why does it explodes? What exactly is happening in this event? But if you dropped a mentos gum it wont explode? What are the difference between the mint candy and gum when dropped un a soda whereas the soda reacts with the mint candy but doesnt react with the gum? Is the reaction physical or chemical?

Mentos mint candy has little bumps accross its surface, which allows the carbon bubbles in soda to continuously form bubbles upon the mint candy. That's the "explosion" you're talking about. I hope this helps!!

Gum has a candied coating, which is all smooth, so the bubbles can't form on it. I think it's kinda a half and half...maybe physical? I don't think anything changes chemically in there.
