i have a question for all. why is that when you decide to try something new in your life, say a new adventure, new music (classical, opera, rock n roll), new recipe or anything new. Someone close to you that you mention it to puts it down, says its only for a certain race, i am being ridiculous, or trying to be something that i am not. I continue to try and educate this person that is good to try new things, experience something different in your life u know. I would like to try golf, tennis, listening to classical every now and then. Just something different. You know i am one of those persons who get bored with the same thing all the time. What about new foods. I sometime watch channel 62 which is man verses food, bizarre delicasies and some other food channel network. Now the real unusual i wouldn't try such as bugs, brains, ears, tongues, etc.... But some of the dishes look real good although i have never heard of some of them. For me depends on the presentation of the dish. If its not good then i always turn it down.

I'm 62 and have been that way all my life. I consider my self to be well versed in many things and have had many experiences because I left home at an early age and traveled the country most of my life! Those people you refer to are shallow and insecure. I always avoid those types! When I run into them now they look at me with awe and ask my opinion on things! tdemex

Agreed - anyone in your life who tells you it's foolish to try something new is feeling insecure about themselves. What do they really have to lose by you "branching out?" Caroline Myss, Ph.D. has said several times - when you attempt to build self esteem by choosing YOU, those around you who are not building their own self esteem will try to keep you at their level. They will not celebrate your successes with you.
The question you must ask yourself - will you inspire them to rise to a new level, or will you allow their criticism and disbelief to lower you to theirs?

Hi, dear tdemex, when i read your experience, i feel very jealous. It seems that i always want to live such kind of life as you; however, now, everyday, what i have to do is work and earn for life...sometimes, i feel very sad, i think my dreaming life will never come up to me. And i like experience something new. Even once time i was robbed, then when i mentioned it to others, what i felt was not fright but funny. And I always do something that others think it's ridiculous. For example, when i went to another city to have a look, all people around me said that's a boring city. But what i saw it's a different city i have never been to. Especially they knew that i looked around the city totally on foot, they said to me that you were crazy...So i always feel noboday can understand my heart...When i want to change a job that i think it's more suitable for me, every friend comes to me, saying "you have already had a very good job"...Gosh, who can understand me what kind of life is my true love.

I don't think it should matter, everyone should try to experience anything that they're interested in trying no matter who they are. I lived in a lot of different places and sometimes you have no choice but to try different things, and sometimes that's one of the blessings in disguise....

Hi twooten,
Being yourself and doing what you want to do is the most important thing within reason of course. If you want to do something new and you find you can get out to take part in it well do it go for it. Don´t let the naysayers drag you down. Just get out there and do what you can while you can even if it´s only going up to town and back again a different way. I don´t do much of those cookery things I like to make up my own but I do pick up some of their tips. shes right tongues taste just like meat. I only tried them once and was not impressed but that does not mean to say that you won´t be. Everyone has the right to make choices of their own. So when you post again let us all know what you did how did you get on and all that.
Good luck.

don't be bothered with what people say. these should not be the determining factor in anything that u want to embark.

I think it's good to try new things, as long as you don't get injured or kill in the process. So trying new recipes or new music is a good idea. You'll learn something new by learning new things. I would love to try that as well. Stuck on the same routine can be boring. However, I don't think I'll try eating bugs, brains, ears or whatever. Don't feel like trying it. But I already ate tongues, if that still in the list and it only tasted like meat. So it's no big deal.
