Do you remember those virtual reality machines? What happened?

I was suddenly thinking about those virtual reality machines and I'm just wondering what happened to them! Are they still about? Were they even created for the everyday user? I'm thinking that their main use is for big businesses now and places like that. I went to Picadilly Circus once in London and I used on in a game which was a very interesting experience. I think that the closest thing we have now to those machines is the website secondlife only with this you don't have to wear any kind of headset in order to get the three dimensional view. Anyway, were you one of the lucky ones and you actually bought yourself one of these machines as expensive as they were at the time? Andrew

no i can't say i remember them. I didn't even knew they existed and especially not in the past as an old technology. I want them to come back if it's true. I know they use it at my university for research and testing though.

I think that this is all they are used for now, research and testing. I would have loved to have one of these machines in my own home but they are just too expensive for the everyday user. Andrew

I know. They were a big thing way back when. I think in the '90's. I've always wanted to try it, but, never got around to doing it. I heard they they weren't all that great anyway. If they make a comeback I will definitely give it a try. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Yes, they were pretty big at the time! I think that they were extremely expensive too so not something for the everyday user. I'm thinking that they are mainly used now for home designs and things of that nature. The government probably has a stockpile of them all over the place! Andrew

When you mentioned it, I just remember those kind of things used to exist in this world (maybe they still do) It was huge back then, wasn't it? I still remember people was crazy on buying the devices. I never buy one, it's too expensive and I could never afford it. Even if I could now, I don't think I will. What happened to it now?

The last time I had any experience with them was when I paid a visit to the Trocodero at Piccadilly Circus in London. It was a really good piece of equipment and I found it fascinating. However, as you say, the price to buy one of these contraptions was sky high. I think that they are still in existance although as someone else has mentioned here, they are mainly used for testing and research, governments and universities and those kinds of establishments. I think of them as some kind of hidden technology! You can almost be forgiven for thinking they were top secret! Still, I guess they never really took off for the everyday consumer. I know that they are used now for home designs and things like that. They are very expensive pieces of equipment though. Andrew
