As part of preparing for the biggest fight of his career, Juan Manuel Marquez revealed that he is practicing Urophagia, the consumption of urine. Sound disgusting but million of people think of it as beneficial to one's health.
I'm not going to try this myself, but what's your thought about it.

I read that in the news... and i was quite shock to learn that... the only instance i know that person would drink urine is when there is no access to drinking water... and that was the only way for one to survive... i never thought that an athlete like Juan Manuel Marquez would practice such a thing... but if believes it is helping him greatly in his boxing career... then there is no stopping him from consuming his body's own waste...

Even in survival training they are against it, some instructor explain that there are too much salt in it which can worsen the dehydration.
I've seen it before about 4 or 5 years ago in tv show, they only drink the first urine in the morning. Only once a day.
Maybe it could really give him the edge. Lets drink to that. ha ha ha. :))
Thanks for the reply.

This wouldn't actually surprise me,the reason for that is,'I have heard of this way of this way to health, many years ago,one of the Indian minister did this peculiar thing of consuming his own urine and also this was successful for him,he lived much more that wouldn't be possible by mere medicines, the Ayurveda way of healing health disorders involves this way of treating with urine, its clear that one would do any thing for their life to be there in the Earth.
I think urine is not a bigger threat there are many other customs that some people in India follow.

I had heard of famous cases of cacophony (?) which is about the same, only that you eat your feces instead. Anyway, urophogia can't obviously be a source of please other than to people with extreme tastes and I do not oppose it if it can REALLY improve one's health. But were are the proves to that? Have yet to see them.

Hello dhugoi. I used to have an old neighbor who drank his own urine all the time. Back then I was a small child when I got to know this. It was said that one's own urine could be of some treatment for some disease, but I am not sure what disease it could cure. This old neighbor of mine lived up to more than eighty years old before he left us neighbors.

I feel the same way you do, I can't imagine doing that but he said that he already doing it for the last 5 fights in his career and he admit it makes him feel stronger. But whatever benefits it may bring I will never do it.
Anyway according to some articile i've read about urine, 95% of it is water.

I saw an episode of CSI once when the victim drank her own urine and she did this as part of a beauty therapy. I thought urine contains toxins; that is why we get it out of our system through our kidneys. But I heard astronauts in outer space drink their own urine but only after it has gone through purification and the end result is still water and not urine anymore.

Before I reply on your post i did some research about the contents of urine.
It says that approximately 95% of it are water and only 5% are solutes (chemical that are disolved in water) and in that 5% there are more or less 100 other substances and the largest are sodium chloride (salt). In that case then almost all of it can be recycled to be use for human consumption.
Thanks for the reply.

I respect what others think that is good for their health but I can't really imagine myself drinking my own urine. Even if how many benefits from drinking urine you lay in front of me I will not drink it.
