How much money to consume to live in New York and a middle city generally?

I heard live in America won't use so much money as in China, of course just life,like the eating,dress,and transport to live and work..
In China,about RMB100 to spend in Supermarket like Walmark.The cheap T-shirt is RMB20,apple is RMB11 or 13/kg, meat is 9-12, vegetable is 5-16/kg.The subway is 3-5 according to the distance,and RMB 3000 per month to rent house about 90m2 in Beijing and Shanghai.
Salary of undergraduate is RMB1300-2500 generally according to the major,of course some is 5000 or 8000 if he access in the top 500 company of the world.The master is more than 3000 and doctor degree may find Job with salary RMB150,000 a year,but mostly is more than 5000 per month.
Of course,the addidas and nike and others are so expensive in China compare to our salary..
So how much money to consume in USA,and is it low than China?

It depends where you live in the U.S. It's a big place and the cost of living will be different in a lot of different places here. New York is one of the more expensive places to live, especialy in New York city, but salaries are generaly higher too. The mid west seems to be the cheapest place to live here, states like Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska.

I am also chinese so I could not give you satisfying answers. Basicall I agree with the data you provided.But Also I brought a little different opinions.I mean it's not necessary to sent a 90 square meters apartment to live in and you can ask more guys to co-sent the apartment which could reduce cost down below 1000RMB while still enjoying garden type apartment's safety and copnvenience,vegetable in big cities is expensive but no way to solve unless someday goverment allow us to plant vegetables on the roof(s) of our building,fruit is also dear but mainly because they are oversea importd fruits.we can choose much cheaper local fruit.In a world,you can save money by reasonably reducing the quality of your life.I do believe americans spend more because as you know 1 USD = 6.7 RMD.......

I agree with you partly.Of course I know we can rent a house with many person so the fee will lower.What I said is the price for the house of 90m2..And I like apples,but apple produced in Shandong which is sold in Shandong is also very expensive.And do not forget that their salary is also $3000,and we also RMB3000 a month.There is no different.So the commercial level is caparable..
