Can we return to trust and integrity?

Throughout our nation, Americans have lost their trust in our government, all the major institutions, and each other. It seems as if integrity is rare, so there isn't much to trust. Do you think we can return to being happy andcomfortable in our country? Is it too late to put an end to the haters who out-shout everyone else?

These days, they're really, really hard to ignore. I just read a post on another site comparing the president with Hitler, and people seem to believe it! I am thoroughly disgusted!

Unfortunately, cobra, you can substitute Australians, Brits, French, Canadians, Germans, Japanese, etc. etc. for Americans in your opening post and the question would be precisely the same with precisely the same answer, or probably more likely lack of answer.

It's never too late for changing a country. Ever. There's always a way to do something. As long as people who care and will do something exist...
And that's the thing; it is totally up to us. Only we can change things. If we see it, we have a responsibility to act. No one else will do it for us.

My friend, I think you know I truly believe we can never allow life to happen to us. We must make it happen FOR us.

I don't think anything will change until each individual realize they're part of the problem and quit blaming it all on the other guy.

Excellent point! Looking for someone to blame precludes taking responsibility. That responsibility is an important step in a return to civility.

That is a very good question. The government can be a pain. A lot of people try to make it work with others in other countries. But our government can make things hard to were it can make people hate each other so bad. I have never had problems with other countries. But the way our government has treated other countries is why most places hate each other. There is to much hate in countries anymore. I can understand that people want to be in our country but do it the legal way. We have lost have of our jobs because the people that sneak over here and that is not good on us or our families.

Strawberry, maybe you have hit on an answer. Maybe we need to ignore the governments and become friends throughout the world. Just as we all get along so well her on the Lot, we could do it on a global scale. Let people hate governments if they wish, but show them that individual people are wonderful beings in every country.

Some times people have to go around the government and show that people can be friends and not enemies. Some times I think the government wants all to be enemies so we can fight against each other. And that isn't the way it should be. They try to run everything when the people should have the say about things to.

I hate to say that the people who show the most hate to our American Constitution happen to have a connection to Judaism. I'm not saying that all Jewish people hate our American values but as a rule of thumb the worst violators in my own experience have a connection in the power of authority and have violated the rule of law some were just ignorant and some even lied.
We will not see a day of peace if we do not hold the violators accountable, these criminals need to be removed from their positions to allow more honorable people into the system and to set the record straight.
I want the culprits who are not doing their work properly to be removed and they can learn what being a hard worker is all about. I don't hate them for being evil, I simply want them held accountable, and then to require recompense and discipline for the unrepentant humans that are bad.
The innocent should never be convicted of a crime, especially when there is ample proof to prove that the crime was committed by another individual.

I will respect your wishes in the future if that is truly how you feel about me...
My point you have taken out of context, I do not like Cheney and it is a great number of people working in the system of government who are Jewish but act nothing like a Jewish person should act that I am talking about. I never point the finger at you whom I admire and respect. While we probably will not agree on the issue of organized religion and the place for organized religion in our world. I still respect a person who is honest. I'm pointing out that I did not use hate speech and I am not a bigot against all Jewish people just the ones that I have found not to be doing their jobs.
I didn't want to name names of three I can think of right off the top of my head so I spoke/wrote in general terms of them... Indeed one bad apple spoils the whole basket and I know of three, there are others to be included as I didn't go on about everyone who has hurt me, several are Mennonite or they are affiliated with Christianity.
Don't think I'm covering up the bigotry in a reversed manner, and tell me again that I am wrong and call me hate filled and I will stay way clear of you because your eyes are so clouded you can not see the truth in what I write.
I've been seriously hurt and very recently as well I might add.
Do you always allow bad people to hurt the innocent?

I believe I can respond responsibly, because I am both an activist and a Jew. I've been called ugly things by far better than you. Religion has nothing to do with any of this. I understand that many people think Jews are rich people who control the economy. I can think of a couple of people who fit that stereotype, but most Jews, like me, are hard-working people who can barely make ends meet, just like everyone else. Patriotism is one of the major thrusts of American Jewish education. So is acceptance of those who are not Jews.
As for culprits who do not do their jobs right, and who make America a country to be hated, shall we start with Cheney?
Please do not contact me or respond to my posts in the future. I am, indeed, prejudiced. I a totally unaccepting of bigotry!

I am sorry to say Mr.Buffalo, if you did not intend insult, you should not have targeted a specific "type" of person. You are right, there are good people and bad people in each religion. Not any specific one, the best way around that is to say "some people" that don't do their jobs properly.
On a side note, there may be a mylotter or two that would do far better then the current government, but how do you convince people that don't know them that they are the right choice, to change the government, you need the majority of the populaces approval, they don't have that in certain countries, and so there is much violence as the governments constantly change. Oprah, and Walmart, are known and loved by the majority of people, and walmart has the 5th highest GDP in the world...that is higher then 250+ countries, I think they might know how to run a big organization, which is essentially all that a government is anyways, we would be debt free, and at peace with most in a matter of a decade or so, no major change will happen over night, or even in the first few years, no matter who is in power.
Cheers.

I don't believe in any of our elected officials. First of all, they're rich. So they represent the rich, only know about the rich, and have to make decisions for the middle class and poor. Most have been in trouble with the law, most have had affairs including on the clock (when working). Look how many it has been found don't even pay their taxes? I don't think there is any basic difference in the parties any more. Most say anything to get in and do what they want when they get there. Some don't even go to sessions. We elected people who have been absent 20%, 33%, 50% of the time. Sometimes I've seen the tv camera pan to elected officials who were sleeping. In NY, our Senate for our state refused to do anything for
1 1/2 months. The Dems said they had a majority and the Rep said they did. They were missing one person and had the same # of people on each side. So no Senate Maj. Leader, all because some fool switched parties before the end of the session. Why should they even be paid for that time?

I agree.
A few people who became rich after being dirt poor or street peole would be nice to ahve in there, plus some middle class, too.
Yeah, starting all over again would be nice. Bet the Forefathers who signed the Constitution didn't forsee these idiots.

Hi Jo,
I believe that if most of us take responsibility for our own happiness and stand up for this Country, then yes I think we can regain the integrity we as a Nation so desperately need. We need to hold our appointed Government officials to their promises and much more than what was promised. It is so tragic to see what is happening in our Government and in ourselves. I hope that our economical downfall wakes this Nation up and makes people start thinking about their part in it. Then and only then will things begin to change for the good. It's never too late Jo. Hugsss

One thing we can all do is turn off to those shouters. Change the channel, write the net work, send e-mails and request positive not negative news, if they get no recognition they will be more likely to quit shouting and work in more positive ways to get their points across. Also remember that trust and integrity begins at home and each of us in our own lives can encourage these.

I think something major needs to happen like a major catastrophe or aliens dropping down from the sky in order for us to return to that type of state again. Everyone seems to be unhappy with something, anything and we have all as a whole become more critical of society.

Like the House of Usher, I think that American values are doing a slow slide into the abyss. I don't see it coming back.
