Hello ladies and "gentle ladies", I posted this topic because I remember my mother before that she hated my sisters for having a long finger nails and coloring it because as what my mother said, they can't able to work anymore whatever house chores they would have to do because they would feel conscious anymore of their finger nails to be ruined that's my sisters used not to have it anymore until they've grown up. Was my mother right? Well as what I know it depends because there are ladies that can afford to do whatever they wanted with their finger nails specially if they don't have some house chores to attend to... also I've seen some of our "gentle ladies" who has a long finger nails and there are also doesn't like it. How about you what's your stand?

i do not like long nails.. and i also do not allow my children to keep long nails.. especially when in our community - we eat using our hands... it is totally unhygienic to keep long nails, dont you think ?

I like keeping my nails short and clean. I still use nail polish sometimes even if I have short nails. My favorite is french tips style because it looks clean and simple. Anyway, I don't like long nails. As a microbiologist, it isn't a good hygiene practice. It disturbs my laboratory work and can contribute to contamination. Long finger nails can gather dirt, bacteria, etc. :)

I don't really prefere to have long finger nails because it is difficult to maintain in my busy life schedule. If I were a home maker, I would have preferred that. I let my nails grow long and apply nail polish once in a while especially when I am looking forward to attend a party. Even if I grow tehn long, it will get broken in a few days and I will go back to the short nails.

I would preffer to have medium long nails... too long, you are not able to do much and its even a pain to type, too short, I feel like I have the hands of a 3 year old, so Id rather have them medium long. I love anything and everything that has to do about nail care, hand care, nail designs and so much more... I believe that just because we do house chores doesnt mean that we dont have to take care of ourselves... sure, you are more prone to have your nails chipped or broken than a woman who doesnt do anything.. so I say keep it balanced. One of the best ways to keep nails long is just a simple thing, change your diet, eat good sources of calcium and you would be surprised how strong and how long your nails grow! Each woman has their choice. If you want to keep them really short, its good! just dont forget to paint them once in a while, we deserve to be fashionable, and if you like them long, dont have them too long otherwise you wouldnt be able to do some things, like carrying a baby!... And dont forget ladies, stay beautiful... our hands and feet are two parts of the body that aside from our faces, we may neglect the most, so, you better work!

Not a problem. A woman's hands can look good with short finger nails as well. Like I said, each lady has her choice. There are several good designs for short nails too!

Well it depends on what you have done to your nails and it also depends on what chore or task you are about to do. I personally don't like long finger nails because its hard to manage it especially when you're so busy. Sometimes it's not quite nice to look at when they become dirty. Although, I have colored nails and yeah there are certain chores that has to be done that may ruin your manicure and all but it depends on you if its okay or not cause I admit it is hard having a manicure especially when you're doing your nails all by yourself.

I like short finger nails. I find it more neat and easy to manage. Having longer nails requires more care and attention because you have to go to the spas or salon to have it done. While there are some that manage to keep their nails long and find it really nice and pretty. Well, it really depends on a person but for me I like it short. :)

I think I am like your mother, I don't like long nails precisely because it hinders me from doing my job well. I don't like having to worry about my nails every time I do something. I want to be able to work with my hands without distractions. Another thing with long nails is that it is not safe with kids around. Especially if they love to wrestle around like my boys do

I also dont like long nails. I like short nailed ladies and men with clean and short cut nails. I dont like also coloring my nails with different kinds of cutics and design something on it. I just use orange stick to push the cuticle on my fingers and thats it. I dont even remove the cuticles. Have you noticed, most of those manicuring their fingers most of the time sported big nails because of the constant removal of cuticles. It also makes your nails hard and strong.

I love having long fingernails. Of course, I am always forced to clip them to a certain length since I serve food but if I didn't I would put all sorts of designs on my nails like earrings, an expression of my personality.

i dont like to wear long finger nails. because i think it's not only inconvenient to do house chores or other work, but also bad to health due to the bacteria in the nails. but i also know everyone has his/her own habit.

Hi, You hv chosen a nice topic for discussion and your mother was absolutely right. I agree with her views because with long nails I have never been able to work in kitchen. You have to do so many chores that one or the other nail gets broken every other day. When you are growing your nails you prefer them to be of same height. But if one or two get broken then you have to file them again and look out of place. Another thing is that long nails without nail polish look barren and when you are working, nail polish peels off from the tip of the nail and that too looks unclean. So I keep very small nails and file them. But I have stopped using nail polish on them as I hv to change my nail polish every other day.

You know what my friend? I have a good impression of a lady who's having a short finger nails...why? because for me a lady who has that kind of finger nails knows how to work in their house, house chores and everything...and that's you I think you are one of them...thanks for responding...

Hi! I somehow agree with what your mom said that a lady can't be able to work that much on the household chores if she has long nails. Although if one is already rich enough then she can just hire a household help :) But if you can't afford it and you do the chores on your own then it's advisable to have shorter nails, although not too short. That's one reason on why I prefer shorter nails. Just enough to make it look neat and clean and at the same time not look too short because it also have some advantages if one has long nails. Among others, it's very helpful in untying a tight knot ;) Also, aside from the other chores, I do the cooking in the house and I don't like it when I cook with long and painted nails (with all its chemical smell) and some of the food would stick under the nails. ew! :) There are some ladies though who have short nails but doesn't look clean, and some with longer nails but kept it neat. I guess the bottom line is, as long as you keep your nails clean and neat enough and it doesn't obstruct any of your important works then I guess it's up to the lady to have her nails long or short :)

I like long nails because they are pretty. But what do you need them for, opening a door without a key. I don't need long fingernails. The only thing you would be able to do with them is scratch people real hard and give them a cut. So it depends, would you need them for protection or just to show off?

Hello Martin, I don't think having long fingernails would be a problem. Maybe it could be a bit hindrance when doing household chores, but, that depends how she manages to do things,or how long her fingernails are.(i guess not 2 inches long huh, that would be very difficult hehehe) Having long fingernails and painted makes young girls looks cute, and,it is becoz they like to experience and experiment things, like coloring their nails, putting make-ups. I don't used to have long fingernails and i don't use make-ups,but,i like young girls doing those things,as if,let them enjoy it,it won't hurt anyway..

hi mobhomeir, your mother is right. once your fingernails is colored or with nailpolish it's really hard for you to do chores, but if you're used to having colored nails and still working/doing your laundry, kitchen activities, gardening, etc. you're fantastic. now i like my nails with nailpolish but since i am hands on mom (aside from being a career woman) and a kitchen person i opted not to have nailpolish on my fingers but of course A MUST for my toenails! cheers!

I do not necessarily like exceptionally long finger nails, but I do like them to at a medium length. My finger nails do not grow as long as I wish they would. I type almost everyday. I had a secretarial job for over 18 years and I would type with my nails. I just love to polish my nails. I do not go any place without them being polished. I like all the beautiful colors that are available. Medium length nails are okay with me, not long.

Hello Mobhomeir, I personally like long nails. I get my nails done every other week. I like to have french or american manicure done. It looks very professional and clean looking. I noticed a lot of people here claim that just because you have long nails is very unhygienic. That is so not true. If you keep your nails clean, wash your hands, use lotion and take care of yourself. I see nothing wrong with having long nails. I totally LOVE mine and I ALWAYS get compliments on my nails. My nail tech gets a lot of credit and a lot of references from me. :) Happy MyLotting Olivia :)
