Are you a pessimist or an optimist?

I often have to fight being a pessimist myself. I keep thinking of John Milton's quote in Paridise Lost. "the mind is it's own place, and in itself can make a heaven of h#ll, a h#ll of heaven" I think thats what he was trying to say. in our minds is where the pessimist or optimist starts. as for myself at this point in life i have to fight in my mind to be optimistic. I figure many of you have the same problem. so which are you? likely you have the same problem? Do you have a certain thing you do to fight it? my little dog helps me with this

Hello bunnybon. I am an optimist in general. I love to see things towards good sides that allow me to see positive sides as always. It is the same with my father. I think that I am inherited from my father, carefree and positive.

optimist. however, cant help to stay realist so that's where the conflict goes. when i make plans, i check the angles of possibility that it may or may not happen, its consequence and how to solve it just in case. am looking forward to the best result of whatever work i do but i also stay into reality of what will be my next step if it didnt work out well. there must be contingencies, be it individual or with a group. ü

Hi bunnybon, I try to be an optimist as I know it's the best way to live. There is never any fun in always expecting the worse to happen. It's the same as looking at your glass as half full or half empty, I always think of it as half full. I agree with you as the the meaning of John Milton's words. To get rid of pessimistic thoughts, I try to create something like a poem or a story. Returning to the drawing board, no matter what you do usually helps. Blessings.

I'm a pessimist turned optimist! I learned a few years ago that I can decide what kind of day I will have and I choose to have good days. That's the first thing I tell myself and my dogs in the morning!
When things get stressful or I have problems I just think of what a cyber friend always said: Never give up, never give in! It's my motto and it really helps encourage me.

I am always a pessimist. Just naturally that way. I do have many things I try to be opptimistic about. Sometimes I can be but at others I just can't. It really depends. Too much of a realist I guess.

yes, the realist idea keeps coming up here. maybe i should have rephrased that as optimist or realist?

Hi bunnybon7,
It is really hard not to pessimistic with all what is going on around us. I really don´t think that we are all eternal optimists all the time. When I find a bad mood lurking around there I try my best to change the tune but without bottling it up.
Not easy if you have someone who is provoking you constantly but there you go I´m just like the ant who could move the rubber tree plant lol.
Whoops there goes another rubber tree plant does anyone remember this song? Optimism can be real or false. Optimism is also very subtle. Optimism is that I am feeling quite optimistic now in spite of everything.
Usually keep my bad moods to myself most of the time anyway.
Take care.

The song was HIGH HOPES, sung by Frank Sinatra and I think (but not sure) the movie was Pal Joey.
ENJOY!

Hello bunnybon. I think that I am an optimist in general. Maybe I inherit this from my father, who is always on the positive mind most of the time. To be an optimist makes my life more pleasant and enjoyable, but sometimes when there is something bothering so much, I could be a pessimist as well. Usually this kind of negative feeling won't last long. Enjoy yourself, friend.

I've only just recently realized that all my negative thinking is in my head, so I have begun to fight it from time to time. I'm also trying to dig deeper to figure out why I feel a particular way. It's not always easy. I haven't found anything yet that helps me stay optimistic other than my faith that everything happens for a reason.

I'm not a dog person in the least, I have cats and kids and that's good enough for me. I'm sorry that fate depresses you, but it's what gets me through some of the hardest times in my own life.

I am a optimist, I try to look at all the good things in life and what good it has to offer me.. instead of focusing on the bad and what I dont have.. At one time I would have considered myself to be a pessimist, when I was always seeing negative things in life, and letting it get me down, now I try to be positve in the things I do even if means changing my way of thinking and trying to make the most of my situations.. Good or Bad..

I am definitely an optimist - no doubt about it, and I am pleased I am one. It is always better to maintain a positive attitude, aiming for bigger and better things, looking for the good and expecting the best.
If we focus on the good and have a mind-set geared to achieving the good, we are more likely to be victorious. The old saying "If you aim for nothing, you WILL hit it" is certainly true.
Our expectations will also promote success in others. For example, if I focus on a person's good points and encourage them, they will be more likely to achieve than if I show any doubt of their ability.
I am definitely an optimist, but I am an optimistic realist. I realistically recognise the negatives but focus on the positives.

I'm an optimist but that's because I'm a community organizer. You can't be a pessimist if you're an organizer. I think if I were a pessimist the world would get too overwhelming for me and all the stuff I need to deal with would just make me immobile. I have friends who die too often and am aware of wrong stuff too much to just believe that it's going to continue that way forever and ever and we can't change it. I'm an optimist mostly for my own personal sanity.

It is mostly in the mind. However life, and our experience has a lot of effect on our mind. So if things are going fine for you then one tends to be optimistic and if things are going bad for the past few months or years then one tends to be pessimistic.

I tend to be both depending on my mood, but not in half measure. I tend to swing in a wide arc so its always the extreme which ever way I go. To keep things a bit more manageable, tho, I have to keep reminding myself to 'hope for the best and plan for the worst'. It works when I bother listening to myself.
ENJOY!

I am an optimistic person not pessimistic becaue if we hope for good it would always good in our life and if we have some negative thing in our mind it would always be wrong. We should always belive on ourself and always be optimistic. I have seen many people talking in a optimistic way and after some time i came to know that there was really a positing happen in their life. I have also met many people who were always pessimistic and thinking in a negative manner and thing really went negative in their life.
